I posted last week about shearing the pulley bolts on my 200 Optimax compressor.
A lot of responses were that it was a common problem with the bolts ( thanks for the feedback) not my luck though!
I'm kinda mechanically inclined (drag in Dragfish comes from drag racing) The Merc is out of warranty and the new compressor is around $700 or more.
So I decided to rip into it and see what this thing was made of. I found a set of bearings on what would be the crankshaft were bad. I found replacements at Chatt. bearing and had to have my buddies at Trenton Tire press them off and the new ones back on. The whole thing was like fixing an old lawn mower motor.
New bearings, pulley bolts and labor-about $55. Ran it up in the driveway this evening on the water hose- seemed fine.
The true test will be at CFF tx sat. If you see Fishin' Junkie and me with the cowl off my ProCraft stop by and show us your fish-AIN"T SKEERED! emoEek

Thanks for the follow up. I was following your plight on this problem and glad to see you ventured out far enough to come up with a fix. I don't see whay that won't work myself.
Nothing like running that quarter mile with the candles lit all the way. emoThumbsup

Glad ya got it going. emoThumbsup Way to many assemblies replaced these days that can be repaired.

Done a few years of drag racing back in the 70's myself. Still remember the thrills.

Hope the Merc is fine Saturday.

Thanks for the follow up. Wish I had your expertise. I felt like a hero last week just changing out a seal on my trailer! Good luck!!

I have an Optimax and am wondering if the bearings in the compressor are lubed by the same oil that lubes the engine? If they are, what type of oil are you using?
