The engine should be able to run forever on the hose without overheating. It is easier for it because water is being forced in. There are several things that will sound the alarm. If you have a portable tank with the vent closed this will cause the alarm to go off. This puts the fuel system into a vacuum and triggers the alarm via a switch on the side of the engine, a bad water pump, bad thermostat, stuck poppet, freeze damage below #3 , the flush adapter not seated correctly, not enough water flow, bad temp switch, ect!!!!!!!!! Lots of possibilities. Is it a VRO engine???? What does it do when in the water?????
