I finished up my first 90 day round of P90X on January 31. I don't know if I said it in any of my previous posts but my big goal in the first 90 days was to get in good enough shape to do my second round properly.

I made some pretty good gains on the program, particularly in my chest and shoulders. Although I didn't lose any weight (I was up 5 lbs with a week to go) I did improve my measurements. My chest is up 2 inches and my waist is down about the same. I am wearing pants I haven't worn in several years. With one week left in the program I finally started following a reasonable mediteranean diet and have lost 7 pounds in the past two weeks.

I am fired up about round two which I started on 2/1. I am going to stick to my diet and the workouts. I believe I will drop 20 or so pounds over this round and actually see a significant difference in appearance. My stamina has greatly improved since beginning. I would recommend this program to anyone wanting to improve their health.

Are the workouts as brutal as some say they are?

My 16 year old son is currently going through the conditioning drills before the high school tennis season starts. They are using the "Insanity" program to get them in shape. He comes out everyday with his tongue dragging and wants to go home a lay down. He has been doing this about one month and already is a lot stronger and has a lot more stamina.

I had thought about buying the P90X program but was told by several, much younger than me, they looked for reasons to get out of it becuase it was so brutal.

It is very hard. Like I said, I took the first 90 days to try to get good enough to do all the workouts. I'm not there yet but it has made a bigger difference than any workout I have ever done before. Its a very good plan. It is designed for people who are already in good shape. I didn't fall into that category and still don't but I'm gaining on it. If you want I can let you borrow a couple of the workout discs for a few days if you want to try them. I would need them back before Sunday though.

You need to admit the real reason you are doing this program. The more strenght you have the better hook set - Nope, Trying to look better so that your wife will not be checking out other men - Nope, The real reason is to lose weight so that the next time you want to race me you can actually out run me - Right ?

I would say P90 is not for beginners. If you have been sitting on the couch for the past 5-10 years then do something less intense for a couple months, then get into P90. Today I will finish my 5th week and it is not easy. Sorness, physical exhaustion, etc is to be expected about 5 days a week. It does work for getting you in shape though. If you have injuries, joint pain, etc I would pic something else. There is a guy with one leg (has a fake leg on in the video) in the video doing the plyometics. Makes me feel like a puss for not keeping up with him so I kill myself to keep up.

This is my third wk of the program. I can say that it is as hard as you want it to be. I have modified some of the workout due to past injuries. If you are smart and forget your ego you can do it. If you are 40 and have the mentalty of a 18yo, you will not make it. I can tell a huge difference in the strength gains, I have gained 4#, but I have lost inches in my waist. Right now I cannot imagine going thru another 90 days of this. I hope it gets better.

Congrats man for sticking to it and finishing. I bought p90x back in summer of 2008 i think, and i thought it was going to kill me. i have done a few rounds since, after every round something seems to keep me off it for a month or two, be it an injury, elbow surgery, deer season, something. but i've been back strong since the first of december. i was looking for my very first worksheets where on the legs/back day i was getting about 40 pullups in the 8 sets.
I broke my record recently with 128 pullups in the 8 sets, so i've started doing pullups with a 20lb vest on. i never thought that would be possible for me. i have lowered my resting heart rate from the 70s down to about 55 beats/min, and have dropped a few lbs, but mostly just swapped fat for muscle as far as weight goes. its a great program, you just have to commit the time to it, and keep pushing play. there are days that i absolutely do not want to work out, but after i do i always feel better.
Keep it up man and take pictures to track your progress, look back in a year and be amazed at the results. thats one thing i didn't really do and kind of wish i did.

Popeye,
I've been thinking about getting insanity, do you know of anyone that can compare the 2? son's coaches or someone?
