Big rod, big line, big weighted trebles, HUGE arms, lots of aspirin!!!! I want to try getting one for dinner too, I have heard nothing but good things about their table fare.
I snagged one accidently this weekend below Ft. Loudon Dam. I hung it in the tail with a shad rap. The fight was INSANE, drag burning, I had to chase him with the trolling motor! I was fishing alone, so I couldn't get him into the boat but it was approximately 5 feet long. FUN.
I can remember seeing them run the banks below Chick dam years ago. Folks would try and snag them.
emoFish I never have eaten them, always turned them loose but have only caught a few small ones, never tried to snag any. If EricM speaks about cats then I'd LISTEN to what he says. Good luck.
The only place I have ever seen a paddle fish is right at the dam below the nick. I think the regulations say you can't fish for them except 100 yards below a dam, in my opinion this would eliminate catching any. I know people have snagged them for years below the dam and they used to sell the eggs and dump the carcases in the river which was a huge waste. There are no bones in these fish, just cartiledge.
One of the best eating fish I have ever had...Big chunks of white flakey meat. and NO BONES....easiest fish that there is to clean and prepare...Just make sure when you skin it you remove the darker meat off.....the best eating size is 10 to 20 lbs range, anything over that size starts to get a little fatty....I like this fish best broiled with butter and lemon , but you can put on a grill or cut into fish fingers and fry....
I've like to have one to eat but my back can't handle fishing for them....
I'll make a deal with you....you catch'em, I'll clean'em.....
I got a feeling that theres a bunch of them there on the down river side of the rock dike there at Seqouah!!! I got some good weighted trebles. Maybe we should get out there and give that snaggin a try.
