Parksville lake of course
Got out this morning with a buddy from the Jr. Bass club. We headed to Indian Creek trying to get on some topwater spaats... Nope, they weren't out this morning. No shad to be found, heck maybe all the spaaats ate 'em up!

Nah, all the fish were deep today except a few small fish.

Headed to another creek and fished the back of it where I have been noticing some big bull bream and sunfish on the beds. I caught one there, accidently foul hooked it as I saw it bite my bait. Hooked the thing on the outer part of it's mouth. It was a redear sunfish. But was an amazing 12 inches and 1lb 1oz!!!! My PB! Also saw a few more bream (Bluegill) on the beds but they kept their distance from the boat.

Moved out of that creek and fished a main lake cove. Fished my way out of the cove without a hit, then fished the point. That provided a small spot off the shakeyhead. Headed over to another cove right around the corner... No takers there so we headed to the marina. FINALLY some topwater fish. Threw a Jimmy missed all kinds of small spots and smallmouth! Finally pulled one small spot to the boat. A few casts later, good smallmouth came up, got it and took it down before I could do anything... Set the hook on it but it never got hooked

What a bummer, as brown as it was, I knew it was a smallmouth. The fish was definatly a keeper. Maybe around the 20 inch range. Would've been my first smallie out of Parksville.

Headed back to Indian Creek to see if the fish were busting any. Not really, a few came up but were not really busting like they usually do. A slow morning, oh well, it's much better to be on the lake and do some kind of fishing instead of being at home and working on the house like I always do! LOL

Pics - We see an otter or beaver about every trip up there... Decided to take a picture of that this morning. Another picture is a dead snake down in about 5ft of water... Then a picture of the crazy small spot that went for a bait that was bigger than itself. Also, who wouldn't take a picture of a 1lb bream? Make sure you're not fooled, so look at the pliers that I placed below the bream, you can see how big it really is.

Have a good one!

That looks like a very nice shellcracker to me Kevin. Are there lots of beds full of this size right now?

Take your ultralight and some small jigs, and you will be hooked on panfishing, catching a boatload of those!

Ha! Thanks guys. Yes, there are plenty of beds... just find a shallow slough with some good cover. Then you'll see the holes in the water with loads of big bluegill as well as some redear sunfish. This IS NOT the biggest I've seen up there in the last few trips... I know, somewhere, in one of these sloughs, there has gotta be a state record bluegill... I've seen plenty in the 1lb range and maybe even 2lbs...??? Can't really estimate the weight when I don't have it on the scale, but can say that these are huge sizes for bream!!!
