Hey all .. no pictures.. wish I had brought camera
bang.gif
.. I had a service call today in Copperhill, I stoped by Parksville lake up at near where headwaters, there is a creek that comes out right b4 the gouge cant remember the name of the creek .. anyway there is a bay on the left side of the bridge going east towards copperhill, stopped there on the way to copperhill.

Never had a chance to fish that spot b4.. so I decided to stop.. fished few minutes tossing around spinnerbait .. when I noticed in a lil pocket to the right of me a splashing around from one or more fish.. right up on the bank .. they were Bass.

Looked to be big bass chasing something trying to gobble it down. I threw spinner bait over there nothing .. went back to the car and got some plastic worms I had bought the few days ago .. nothing.

I decided to walk over there and take a better look.. to see what they where chasing and eating or trying to eat. I looked down and there was a small rainbow gasping for breath .. in about a inch or so of water .. and 6-10 bass in the 2lb -7lb range just waiting for that lil rainbow to come back out into deeper water.

Then I remembered a customer from California who had just moved here had givin me a swim bait (rainbow trout colored) he makes in trade for couple of my baits .. didnt figure Id ever use it but looked cool.
I went back to the car and lo and behold I still had it in the car.. took it out and it was bout same size as the trout they had cornered (8-9 inches) I gave it a toss up on the bank and slid it slowly out in the water .. it swam maybe 2 feet and the water boiled behind it .. I let it sit still a moment , gave couple sharp jerks ..the water exploded .. and line went tight.

I reared back and bam .. fish on .. got that one in was on my rapalla digitital scale 5 lbs 4oz .. tossed the bait same place and instantly another grabbed it .. another bout 3 lbs.. again .. cast again.. and this time all I saw was water spray and a head .. big ol mouth . oh crap this is the mama of them lil ones .. it surge straight for the trees.. and of course I only had 10lb test .. wraped its self in the first log it came to.. and I sweated for a few sec .. and she amazingly came free.. got her to the bank and slipped and fell .. OUCH sharp rocks .. and covered in mud .

I lunged for her mouth .. grabbed ahold .. wew .. that was close .. that fish was 7.8 lbs !! I was tempted to bring it home .. but it would just sit in freezer with 2 others I need to get mounted.. as I was taking the hook out a tail of another lil rainbow was sticking up from her throat , I slide her back in and waved goodbye to her.. that creek farther up stream must be stocked .. and these bass taking full advantage of an easy meal of dumb stocked trout. Man what a blast that was .. just wish I had my camera. If I can get back over there tommarow .. and catch more like that Ill post picture of them.

Excellent job NRG!!! Dang Ranman I think he just blew it for the world!!!emoLaugh I have seen this also but didn't have one of the nice lil baits he is talking about.emoAngry Only bad thing is the water is so low ya can't get a boat up there! NRG the embayment you are talking about is Greasy creek. There are a lot of large fish that live in there year round and really hard to catch.emoScratch Most of the year from fall to winter the water is so low that a boat can't get into there and the fish are hard to get to. Would love to be able to get in there during early spring but the tournys don't allow me to leave the boat.emoLaugh Thanks for the report and good job releasing the fish. Parksville is a really small fishery and needs all the help it can get.

I just I would have had a freakin camera ... I just couldnt believe they were eating trout .. heard of it in Cal .. but never had seen it here.. Im gonna bring my canoe up there tomarrow if I can get away for lil while. I wana do that again.. and again.. and again

I drove up there after reading that post,I think it is possable to get my boat in there. The problem is getting out after fishing in there.Comming out you will be fighting a hard current coming from the Ocoee, if the the t-motor batteries are weak your stuck!Or if the water level drops 2 or 3 inches your gonna be stuck. Also I would need someone to watch in front of me for rocks and sand bars while running up the river part to get there and as of now I still don't have a partner for the tournament.Sucks! I would love to go/do something that nobody else is doing and I know greasy creek has a good population of fish because even in the summer alot of guys will not go up there.

Nice. Beginner's luck NRG (or had you ever fished up there before)?

Rainbow T pattern swimbaits make sense, but I'd have never tried it in a million years. Now you and Byron "WEST SIDE" Velvick are kindred spirits!

I'm jealous though. Heck, I thought the 4.5 pounder I caught up two days before Christmas was a toad for P'ville! A voice in my head tells me there are some real hefty smallies in there, but I'm yet to catch one. I've heard of an 11 lb fathead being caught a number of years ago, but you never really know. The quality of the water and lower pressure seems like it would produce some good fish.

Thanks for the safe release NRG. I doubt the vast majority of users on that body of water would have done the same. Thanks for the report too!

Never fished there a day in my life .. been by it billion times always looked so good there.. If I had not noticed the fish trying to catch something, would have never thought of the swim bait .. they where stalking those trout .. just waiting for them to get just a lil farther out .. there were relentless they would not leave the one in a inch or so of water alone .. just kept swimming back and forth daring it to move.

Hey there NRG have you been back and tried that again???emoConfused Jmax

Was there this am .. soo freakin cold burrrr.. bout froze my fingers off.. I tossed that trout bait around a little.. not much happening today there .. Did get one swirl as it went over tree branch , but he /she would'nt take it .. I really need to get my boat over there .. as I was leaving a blue bass boat was creaping up in to Greasy creek, after running my service call in Copperhill they where fishing on a point .. wanted to stop and see if they had any luck.. also thought maybe was someone from here .. but I just went on .. I did fish the flats around Chester Frost for couple hrs this eve .. caught 2 small bass, and hooked good fish but lost it on a rattlin rouge around tree stumps. I cant wait for the weather to warm back up like we had at G-Ville

I thought about going in there during the tournament yesterday, when we blasted off that huge flat was covered with water (unlike the last few weeks) but when we got back in the afternoon the water level had dropped and that flat was dry!I would be stuck out there for days!

ranman, this is not the time of year to trust TVA ! emoLaugh even tho they moved the bouys up to the swim area it is only a foot or so deep out on the flat as you said. How did the tourny go?

emoScratch Sorry, just saw yer other post.
