Fished the dogfight tonight by myself. (First time I've fished myself in the boat) I had a great time too!!

Since I haven't fished the lake in 2 weeks, I just kept to the gameplan I've used the last few times I was out there. That was Toads in Coves...

First headed to my top-secret cove in Indian Creek. Missed 3 fish. I'm pretty sure 2 of the fish were keepers as I saw them attack the bait. Headed to some of my other secret coves. No luck, missed a few fish.

Then headed to another creek. That is where I finally hooked and landed a couple fish.

Landed one spot... Moved on down fishing the banks, noticed a BIG splash out in the middle of the creek, casted my toad near the splash... BAM!! It was like a beaver that smacked its tail on the surface! My lord, it was a monster. If it were a bass, I'm really hurting!!

Missed another fish a few casts later. Then another! When is this going to end?!

Well, I missed another fish, stopped the bait about 5 feet from the boat and that fish came up, got it, then stopped right near the surface...?? While it was stopped for that split second, I noticed it tried to open it's mouth... I was thinking that I'd better set the hook before it spits the toad out! Set the hook, this time I landed it... It was a 3lb 4oz largemouth. The fish died approx. 10 minutes after I caught it. It bled to death. I hooked the fish in the gill. This is why the fish stopped and opened its mouth.

I was upset. This was the first largemouth to die on me this year. I tried to revive the fish for 10 minutes and stop its bleeding, but no, it was to late.

As it got dark, I slowed down and fished with a shakeyhead around the marina. Landed 2 13 inch spots and I retired for the night.

Ended the trip without another keeper fish that was eligable to weigh in.

My problem tonight was that the hook was to big. I usually throw a size 4/0 toad hook, but the shop was out, so I was stuck with 5/0. That has caused me problems in the past, and did tonight. emoDoh

Missed the weigh-in and went home. I hear that Seth Davis and Taylor Culpepper won with 9.87lbs. Seth is Phenom on the forum and Taylor is futurepro. Congrats guys!
