Try CCleaner, Ad-Aware, Clean my registry, Spybot. These programs are free, but they will ask for donations. Your best bet may be Doc1, but these are worth considering.
JackG gave you good advice.
1. CCleaner will clean out the junk in your Windows registry and will perform the Disk Cleanup that "Windows" offers under "Accessories" only much better.
2. Spybot-Search & Destroy is an excellent Spybot/ malware blocker. Be sure to use BOTH its' "Immunize" and its' "Check for Problems" functions
BEWARE there are many Spybot imitators with misleading names. MAKE SURE you get "Spybot Search & Destroy".
3. I would add "Threatfire" from PC Tools.
4. Last, but not least, "Squsi" works really well and eliminates a lot of clutter. Check it out @
http://www.squsi.com/index.php.
4. Runs these at least once a week.
5. Check for updates every time you run (except Threatfire and Squsi, they update themselves automatically).
6.These are all FREE and give me 100% protection.
7. Run "msconfig.exe under windows "Start/Run" to see what windows loads every time it starts up. This is what slows you down.
8. "What's Running is a small program that shows you exactly what Windows is running and what resources it is using:
