I was at my local Wal-Mart last week, and noticed a Pinnacle Platinum reel, that was going for $58 and change, on the sporting goods shelf. It had 5 BBs, 6.2:1 ratio, and seemed like a smooth reel. So, I knew that I would have the extra $$ this weekend to go get it. Well, I walked back there, and there was the reel, and 2 Solene's. I picked up the Solene, and gave it a spin or two, looked at the specs on it, and decided to go with it. Why? It was $48 and change, has 6 BBs, with the same ratio.
I took it out this afternoon to Sloppy Floyd, to dial it in, and I have to say that for a reel to come on a shelf (most of them aren't nearly worth the money that they are sold for, in my opinion), it was a VERY smooth reel, and I could cast a mile with it. I spooled 12 lb. Big Game on it and I purchased a couple of the FLW Finesse jigs at Wal-Mart, on clearance, for $0.75 each.
I used it for the better part of 2 hours, casting it, flipping it, and messing around with the dial brake and the tension knob. So far, so good. I will add additional posts to this one, giving updates on it. We will see if it will last and endure the punishment I dish out to my reels.
