Been a while since I've done any hunting. Last year I started getting back into it and all the places you used to be able to hunt are leases or just plain off limits. Anybody have any suggestions?(deer and turkey)

There are plenty of WMA's in the area you can hunt . A.E.D.C. , Prentice Cooper , Cherokee WMA to name a few .
Tva has a bunch of public land around the area lakes you can hunt but are mostly accessable by boat only . What do
you plan to hunt ?

There's tons of public land and leases available. As far as the leases go; it just depends on what your willing to spend. PM me if you need some lease info. I have been trying to drum up a few.

Thanks guys, usually deer and turkey. I've been hunting the WMA's and it seems everyone is in the same boat I'm in. Most people are having trouble finding places to hunt. It seems like all the private land has vanished. I guess next year it'll be leases and WMA's. I guess the good old days are gone. Aren't most of the good lease pretty expensive?

If you beat the bushes you can find about 70K acres for $300 in about 10 counties in TN. Or you can pay the $433 Illinois non-res. bow tag and hunt public land. There are many affordable leases available out there and hunting is better in TN than it has ever been in my life! YES, there are affordable one's out there! As far WMAs go; all you have to do is put in the homework and walk, they are as productive as any place as long as you get away from the road and 99% of the other hunters.

While we are on the subject, are there any WMA's or decent leases in the Birchwood/Grasshopper area?

There is some public land that is open year-round in the birchwood pike/thatch area. TVA owns it.

Yea, those places get hammered all season long. I did shoot my first deer in that area though. I grew up down Thatch Rd and my parents still live there. Those deer get smart very early in the season.

You can go to the TVA map office over near Tyner High School and get maps that will show great details of just where you can hunt. There is a lot more land up in there than you may imagine. Some of it is not hunted but full of game. I know a few of those spots. The big areas that you can access from the road is pretty well stomped out.

The last few times that we have fished out of Eldridge Slough, we have seen does everywhere on the ride home. They are in yards, pastures, and even feeding along the side of the road. I will definitely look into the TVA public land.

Your message about affordable leases really interest me. My son and I enjoy hunting, but have had a hard time finding good land that is good for hunting deer. We live in Georgia, so TN sounds really good to us. Have you ran across any leases that are on something like 70 to 150 acres? If so I would like to talk. You can e mail me at
[email protected] or give me a call at 706-463-0832. Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.

I remember pics of some nice bucks you boys tagged last year. I was thinking you need to show me a place to hunt!
I should be getting some info on a sweet deal here in the next few days, I'll keep you posted.
