I went back out after the storm and decided to look for some Crappie. I only caught 1 small spot, 1 bluegill and this 7.0 pound channel on 4 lb. test line and my ultralight rod. He pulled me around for awhile. I didn't know if I was going to land him or not. I let him go to grow up. He was caught on a 1/32 oz bleeding hook jig with a 1" curly tail grub sort of chartreuse color with some sparkle in it.emoGeezer

Man, those channels fight like demons on cat tackle. I bet he was some kind of fun on 4 lb. test. It takes much man to catch big fish on light tackle. emoThumbsup

Richard, I thought that he was going to spool me at first. Thank goodness that he came away from that dock and went to open water. I had to pull up the trolling motor to keep him away from that, but other than a strain on my wrist, it was a piece of cake. I think that most people make a big mistake trying to get a big fish up so they can see what it is and therefore lose most of them. If you just play around with it for awhile, it will give up eventually and come to the surface. I can't say enough about the Mr Crappie Hi Vis yellow line. It is incredibly limp and strong to boot.emoSmile emoGeezer

I think that you are right for the most part DK about the fish finally giving up but I'll have you remember that last December I had a flathead on the line for more than 4 hours one day and it never gave up and ultimately rocked me up. I guess I'll just have to stop fishing with thread for 'em.

Great report DK. Mr Crappie Hi Vis yellow - Got it on all my spinning reels and have been very pleased myself. Caught a rockfish on light line a few weeks ago and thought for sure it would break me off but it held up!

Thanks, Al, when you get all this Bass stuff out of your system and want to go for something else, let me know. I'd like to take you to Watts Bar tailwaters this fall and see if you get "skunked" on Stripers.emoGeezer

Polo, when you want to do that again and want someone for conversation while you hang on for dear life, let me know and I'll be glad to go with you. Wipe your brow, get you a drink of water, prepare a meal for you or whatever it takes for you to get the record that you long for.emoSmile emoGeezer

That I would like to do... we can book that trip and I don't think you will let me get skunked like someone else we know would do....LOL emoGeezer

FA you never have to worry about DK letting you get skunked. He is probably the best man this ole country boy has ever fished with. He will put you on some fish.! I can't wait 'till we go striper fishing. I'm ready to hear the 6500 scream.

I may take you up on that DK. It would probably be pretty boring for anyone to watch however. I'm hoping to figure out how to get a net on a big one in less than two hours if at all possible, we'll see.
