I was watching some fishing show last weekend and saw several bass boats with what appeared to be some sort of hydraulic post or pole mounted on the stern of the boat, kind of behind the driver's console. It looked like a piece of PVC attached to some hydraulic jack. From looking at it, (briefly and not in detail) the only movement that I could figure out was up/down. I can't begin to estimate the length as part of it was below the waterline, but I can't imagine it goes too deep.

During the telecast, no one appeard to use this particular piece of equipement, so what is the purpose of this?

Not being a boat owner and having very, very little experience with bass boats I was just curious what this particular piece of equipment does? emoScratch

Power Pole. Kinda like staking out when your using a push pole. Lots of redfish and flats fisherman use'em.

O.K. I can see that.

Do the poles have a "point" to stick into the bottom?

I have staked out boats before with a push pole, and the wind is the determining factor. Is this to avoid using an anchor in shallow water?

Hagen, Thanks for the information on a silly question from a non-boater.

Thanks,

-Rob

FRB there are some places (saltwater mostly) that prohibit the use of traditional anchors due to habitat damage .
flats areas mostly with some sort of sea grass that is easily damaged. the powerpoles shoot straight down and do far less damage than traditional anchors and in shallow water (4-6 ft depending on model of power pole ) they are a lot quicker and easier. however they do cost a lot more.

Talked to the rep down at the classic, they are a good idea but the way they are mounted on the transom there is alot of movement when running in rough water,If you watch boats running with them they bounce alot, would be worried they would pull loose from the transom and then big problems just my .02 worth

Page 12 of the May 2008 issue of Bass Master has an article on the Power-Pole.
$1200 for 6 foot
$1400 for 8 foot
Watch the vidio and decide for yourself about the cost.
I have.
