I've always pronounced Weiss Lake as " Weese" Lake. I hear it all the time up here. Down there, most pronounce it as "Wice" Lake. How do you pronounce it?
If you go to any web site that refers to Weiss Lake you will see somewhere in the site "pronounced Wice"
I have found that most folks from about Chickamauga, GA north say Weess. All of the people that live on or near the lake say Wice.
The locals will quickly say that when they hear someone say Weess Lake they know that person "ain't from around here"
I have always said "Weece," but I would certainly defer to the pronunciation by the locals. They should always have dibs on proper pronunciations. Which leads me to my pet peeve.... when I hear people refer to ChickamaGWA Lake. It is ChickamauGUH!
I always try to go with what the locals say. I am from middle Georgia and everyone aroudn here says Wice. I did hear one guy here call Centre just like it sounds - I have always said Center.
Weiss is my home lake, and I always grew up calling it "wice". A lot of folks, also, just like Pointer, want to call it "Weese Lake", which honestly drives me nuts. It's Lake "Wice". LOL
I once had a cousin that called "Cedar Bluff", which is one of the towns that is on Weiss, "cheddar bluff". Of course, that side of the family was always "funny".
Richard................how in the heck could they get Chickamagwah from that? emoEnforce Makes you wonder the extent of some folks' educational background, doesn't it? emoAngel
