I tend to fish for fun and yesterday DK and I had a fantastic trip to Chickamauga fishing for crappies. Today I went to get my hair cut and spoke with someone there who was excited about getting some fresh crappies to eat. The family has been dealing with lung cancer and the patient has been too sick to go fishing. Hopefully he will be well enough soon to go fishing with me. Anyway, I called up DK to be sure that he wouldn't mind if I took some crappies from one of his stashes for this family and he said it would be fine. If you remember, yesterday was rainy but this morning was miserable with heavy rain. When I looked out from the barber shop the rain was stopping and I figured that was a sign that God was going to bless me with a break in the weather so that I could take some fish to this family in need. When I got home it was still barely drizzling but I checked the weather channel web site to be sure that things weren't going to get bad again soon. The doppler radar showed continued rain but it was barely raining outside. I got on my rain suit as I didn't want to get stuck out there freezing like yesterday but it barely rained on me out there. The fish were thick on a dock in Harrison bay but were a little bit deeper, 10-15 count drop and the biggest concentration was over shallower water today. Not one fish today was caught out away from the dock, they were all under the dock and the walkways thereof. I used the same bait as yesterday, 1/32 oz leadheads with small bass assassins with the tail chartreuse in color using dippin dye. Most of the bites were still very subtle and usually came as I was ever so slowly just cranking the jig in and then would stop it for just a second. The line would stay " too straight" when I stopped and there would be a fish on. DK and I talked about how subtle the bite was yesterday too and it was the same today. I caught close to 30 in an hour and a half 1/2 to 3/4 of them keepers and took between 15 and 20 to the family for a good meal. What a blessing to be able to bless others and have a great time fishing while one is doing it. I would have filleted the fish but they wanted them whole, something about them tasting better that way. The fish are out there and are biting, go get some.
