I picked Polo up at his dock this AM around 9:00 and he and I fished until 1:45. Polo's number 1 goal this morning was to catch a yellow perch. We got that accomplished early on and then went in search of those elusive Crappie.

Armed to the teeth with panfish assassins in every color imaginable, we headed out to the river where we managed in the first couple of hours to catch around 4 fish. Then around noon, the dinner bell rang (actually we moved to a more productive area) and during the next hour and 45 minutes we managed to land somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 Crappie. We kept 20 to eat. My fifteen weighed 17.1 pounds. Polo was giggling like a school girl, he was having so much fun.

We were counting the lure down to about 7 and then slowly gliding the jig back to the boat. The wind was just strong enough that I had to stand on the trolling motor to keep the boat in place and with the bow in the line caused by the wind, we saw several of the strikes before we ever felt them. I'm going to take TT tomorrow and put her on these fish. Hopefully, these fish won't move too far and we can come out with another limit of slabs.

The water temp was between 51 and 52 degrees when we started up there, but we were so busy catching fish that I didn't even look when we quit. Probably didn't change much in the 2 hours we were there, but I'll bet that this afternoon's sun will push it up another 4,5 degrees by dark. It will cool back off some overnight, but should be in good shape for TT's adventure tomorrow.

Polo had to quit fishing for a few minutes. He took his glove off and one of his fingers had turned white. He had to put it in his pocket for a few minutes to get the blood flowing again. He may need a transfusion of blood.emoBigsmile emoGeezer

BOY .. I won't need a transfusion of anything if we find fish like that. I'll be so hyped up DK will have to tie the anchor to my ankle to keep me from going lakeside!!!

I'm so looking forward to getting a good fishing lesson ... and to use my new pole to catch something!!! I probably won't sleep a wink.

Good job guys. How many yellow perch were there? Hey Polo we need to schedule a trip soon My schedule is clearing sooner than I thought it would this spring.

All I can say is WOW! We had a great day. Beautiful sunshine, warming temps. I was watching the water temp and it never got more than the 52 degrees that DK reported. It stayed cold until about noon but then the temp of the air and the fishing warmed up. Neither DK nor I are area fishermen, more like spot fishermen. We hit some areas down lake first and I would say that the fish that we caught early in the morning and later were on the same pattern. I would say that the pattern for the day was main lake current and cover near spawning areas. What would you say DK? We talked about it a bit but the fish aren't far from potential spawning areas, at least the big groups aren't, and current was present where we caught all but the perch. I would expect that there was some where we caught the perch but the current was raging in the areas that we found that held bunches of fish, and I mean bunches. They must have been stacked like "cord wood" down there. One of the spots that we fished was very interesting in that unless the drift was exactly right accross a very narrow band of water you didn't get a bite. It was funny because for about 20 minutes I was getting hits or catching big crappies on every cast/drift and DK wasn't getting anything. Finally he figured out the drift that was needed and he started catching them. The fish were very picky too in what they wanted. We threw tubes, grubs, rooster tails, etc., to see if we would get bites and I think that I caught one fish on something other than a panfish assassin and with almost the same coloration of the assassin each time. It was fun to play around with and it was fun to watch DK figure it out. Of course he finally did. God did bless us bunches today, great weather, fellowship, and fish. It's hard to beat a day like that!

I am hoping that TT has even a better day tomorrow. That would be great!

DK, You are the man. Glad you guys had a great time. Anytime the weight is more than the total of fish it was a great day.emoWorthy
