Did you ever have one of those mornings when you felt that something was not going to go very well? I planned to meet Polo at about 8:15 at the Riverpark. I got there about 8:00 and started getting to boat ready to launch. Guess what, my cranking battery was dead as a door-nail. What was even worse, Polo & I had failed to exchange Cell numbers. So I had to wait for him to arrive before I could go get a new battery. So we had to make a quick trip to Interstate before we were able to start fishing.
I knew though that we were going to hit it off really well because Polo showed up carrying some of his stuff in a Walmart tackle sack. He also had a small cooler full of threadfin shad.
We went up to the Dam hoping to duplicate the success I had there last Wed. The Skipjack were there busting minnows all over the place, but no Bass! We tried jigs in 15 ft or deeper with little success. We tried threadfin shad which brought Polo a 2-3 lb blue.
Then, out of desperation, we hit the rip-rap!!! Actually, we fished rip-rap a couple of times during the morning. I'm really not sure how many fish we hooked up with all together but I would guess maybe 15 or so. Mostly small spots of course. I caught a 2lb 12oz SM on a bone colored Bandit And polo caught a keeper largemouth on a Bandit. We quit around 3:00.
It was really great to spend the day with Polo-Dog. And, he didn't get "skunked".
