This summer I have been fishing some ponds private and public on Monteagle Mountain, I just have a 12 foot aluminum boat and a trolling motor thanks to Djbogle(having a great time with the boat thanks!), I have some success but it always seems the folks I go fishing with (my dad and uncle) have much better luck than I. We mainly Bass fish and I have caught several, but they catch more and bigger ones. They are much more experienced than I and any bait advice or what to look for in a pond to help catch the bigger bass would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for any advice you may have! And best of luck to you!

My advice? Since they're catching more and bigger fish, perhaps you could sit back, watch, and learn. Also, practice your casting skills. That in itself is the most important thing in bass fishing.

First tip!...if your sitting in the back of the boat, CAST IN FRONT OF THEM! You gotta get those fish before the guy in front man!

There are a few stumps I can see in the shallow, A tree down in one side, Another side has tall grass (about a foot tall) for about 50 feet, and the dam side has rocks, and the other part is kinda muddy where cows come in and walk around... I hope that helps. And thanks for the advice...

Try throwing a Zoom horny toad w/ a 4/0 sized sizmic toad hook in the grass area... These plastic toads usually get the bigger basses atention and they'll strike it HARD!!

You want to use a 7ft medium/heavy rod w/ 20 + pound test line and reel the bait off the top of the water where it is swishing the water making sounds. Hold your rod up so when you get a strike you will have line to give to the fish (you don't want the line to tighten up or the fish will let go) Also when you get a strike wait for a few seconds for the fish to suck the bait all the way in its mouth then yank hard and try to get the fish in as fast as possible so he most likely won't come unbuttoned... Take a picture then release the fish as soon as possible if you are not keeping it! Hope this helps some emoThumbsup

Also post a report of your catch!

Thanks everyone that is some great advice. I will try out the Zoom horny toad! Thanks everyone for the help and good luck to everyone!!!

my "go to " for pond fishing this summer has been a tiki worm in smoke shad on a 3/0 red offset hook rigged weedless with a nail weght in the tail. rigged this way it
will come through just about any cover. cast it to likely cover pull it to the surface
then give it slack to glide back down . watch for sideways twitch and slam it home!
i use a 7'4" custom flippen stick with 30# braid for fishing heavy cover

I've always done extremely well catching the big pond bass using live bait. I would always catch a small bluegill and throw him out there and hold on.

Thanks for the advice again, you guys are great and I appreciate your comments & suggestions! I went fishing again yesterday and caught a few, nothing over a pound... Did really good with worms, torpedo, POP R, tiki worm, and a deep running crank bait... OH Yeah and live blue gill. I will get to buy some tack soon and look for the ribbit, shad, and frogs... Thanks a ton for all the VALUABLE information. I think just getting my confidence up that I could do it was a big help.
