So this is a few reports in one. We took off for our annual church camp trip out at camp cherokee on Parksville Lake over the Labor day weekend. Usually we go in July but had to switch it this year. I talked to a couple of Parksville legends and had an idea of where I wanted to go to put the kids on some spots. We announced to the kids early the first day that we were giving a rod and reel combo away with some fishing tackle. I talked a couple of my buddies into coming out and taking some of the kids fishing since I wouldn't be able to take them all. One of those buddies just happened to be The Legend Strato-G (Jerry Goodner) and he sure didn't disappoint! There were two guys that wanted to go more than any of the other kids so I put them in Jerry's boat as soon as we got there. Well I hadn't even gotten down to my boat yet and a kid ran up to tell me that Will caught a huge bass. So we all ran down to the dock and Will pulls out a beautiful 5LB largemouth which ended up being the biggest of the whole weekend! Thanks Jerry!! Funny thing was he was reeling his worm back to the boat when the bass hit and he caught another goodun out of my boat doing the same thing!

So the next morning we got done eating breakfast and one of the staff told me there were fish busting everywhere all morning. So we immediately got in the boat and headed out for some topwater. We ended up with a few on the sexy dawg and then around 11 those fish quit coming to the surface. So i Knew exactly what we needed to do and that was pull out the pink and purple robo's and rig up the drop shot. Ended up catching a lot of quality spots doing that and then we had to go in for lunch. I dropped off the kids at the ramp and made a few more casts. Well I made my last cast and thump I had something big! With 6lb test I just couldn't do anything with the fish and it swam into a bush laying in the water. Finally after a couple minutes the fish surfaced in the bush and it was a giant spot! Had to be over 5lbs! About another minute of fighting it in the bush it got free and started pulling like a freight train out to deeper water and SNAP!! The fish broke my line!! Hate I didn't get to hold that fish and get pictures but thats fishing! All in all we had an awesome time and the fish bit better than they typically do when we go in July. I plan to do more fishing up there for sure. I love that lake!

So a few days before that me and my buddy headed out to chick to practice for an upcoming TX and on his second cast he hooked his best bass ever! He is 6'8 and usually makes the fish look small but not this one. This fish had a massive head on it and was a great fight! A couple days after bombing out in the TX with 1 17in keeper, I went out in the rain with another buddy and we absolutely hammered the bass! At one point I caught 9 Keepers on 9 consecutive casts until the only guy we saw on the lake started motoring close so we just quit casting there so we wouldn't bring unwanted attention! Moving baits were the key and my favorite DT6 that doesnt float anymore did most of the damage. We had well over 40 bass and over half of them would have kept!

Last report: This was about two weeks ago. I had a little guy at church that has wanted to go fishing in my boat for quite sometime. His name is Hudson and he is 7 years old. So that saturday we headed down to the dam around 8:30am. We had a blast and got some great go pro video of all his catches. The one thing you have to learn when taking kids fishing is to be patient and make the trip all about them. First two drifts with some really puny large shiners and Hudson hooked up with two nice smallies that were close to three pounds. We kept catching fish all day and then finally Hudson got a really good bass and it weighed in just under 5lbs. I think we were out there for close to 12 hours and that boy never complained one time! Once it got really hot we just pulled off to the side so we could eat, swim, and skip some rocks. It was actually a pretty slow day b/c there wasn't much current and we wanted bass! But we did end up with 8 species caught and never tried red worms which would have gotten us at least 10 species. Definitely wasn't happy with the size of the shiners we bought. Seems like the guy with the beard will take care of you and give you the right size for the price like Jack Always did. But the other guy twice now has given us small to medium size shiners for the price of the large. I really miss Jack when it comes to that and I hate that Hamilton's is closed. They would at least let us know if the bait was running small and charge us accordingly and Ole Jack would do the same. I guess if this is all I have to complain about after all these fish and fun times, I think I can handle that!! Just gotta start throwing that cast net again and learn how to keep stressed bait alive!

Special Thanks to STRATO-G! If you haven't met him then you are missing out. He is a great guy and I've learned a lot from him!

Here are just a few of the pictures we had....
