Well we hit the property Saturday morning. There were deer busting everyhere as I eased down the mountain. Got to my stand and didn't see a hair. About 10am. I got down and decided to take the long way back to camp. Saw a lot of deer including one mature buck that never gave me an opportunity. Finally I made it back to camp and was pulling my sweaty camos off. I heard something in the leaves next to camp, figured it was Jarred comming back. After a second I realized it was something else, so I grabbed my gun and eased over around the table. There were turkeys everywhere! They saw me and began running and flying as I was looking for Gobblers in the bunch. I looked back down the hill and there was a lone mature doe starring at me. Kaboom and my T/C Omega was christened! The shot was straight down 80 yards, the deer was quartering to. The rest of the gang came up Saturday and we had a great trip with great weather. Everyone saw deer, but we dont shoot small bucks so mine was the only harvest this weekend.

There is a ton of fresh scrapes and rubs, and a lot of traveling sign everywhere. Several of the others saw small bucks pushing does, so things are about to get going I think. Most of the deer movement over the weekend was between 8:30-11:00am.

FYI-If anyone uses Bo's processing in Tunnel Hill. His cooler is full and he will not be taking deer again until tuesday. In other words, I had to process my doe last night under the deck...I haven't lost my touch with a knife!

Nice job on the big doe. Meat in the freezer.

Bo does allot of deer and usually stays covered up. Their is another one just up the road. Joe Sellers

WTG Justin! I know you boys had fun. Oh, BTW, my freezer is empty! J/K Al

Wet willie has the right idea....he hunts for deer on the forum. Al if you keep asking I know some will have too much sooner or later and you will probably end up with some in your freezer. emoPoke Jmax

I think churly needs to change his name to,"The doe slayer". emoEvil Jmax

Somebody has to keep the doe numbers in check. I like a doe to buck ration around 1:1 and the only way to achieve that is hammer them does, plus I think they eat better than bucks. I only shoot does and mature bucks, so....until a mature buck comes in range, I'm gonna keep hammerin the does.

Question:Why has TWRA awarded me with 9 doe tags for 3 unit A counties for gun season?

Answer: Most hunters in TN are not harvesting enough does. When The populations rise and the majority of the deer harvested are inmature bucks, you end up with a week heard. TWRA is trying to counteract that by offering antlerless tags for many counties outside of unit L.

TWRA and I share the same goal for the Tennessee deer heard: heard health.

and good job breaking in the omega. how about the bullet performance? where did you hit her? you get an exit wound? etc..

The shot was quartering to, bullet went in shoulder exited opposite ribs. Total pass-through! Done deal at impact but she rolled all the way to the bottom of the mountain. Thank God for UTVs!
