Ok I figured I would start a post to see what everyone is planning for preping for the begining of archery season like fall food plots, mineral spots, trying new arrows or broadheads,etc... As far as me I am planning to put out a few small fall food plots near my stand areas as well as trying deer cocain for the first time to see what happens. As far as arrows I'm still plan on using my gold tip hunter expeditions pros with grim reaper 2inch cut for my compound, as far as my recurve I'm using gold tip traditionals and yet have decided on broadheads for it so any info on good broadheads for shooting out of it would be appreicated!

We scoped out a few new trees for our lock ons and hung a few cams also. Some red spot down and now waiting.....

got cams out and mineral blocks .thinking about trying a expanable head this year ?not sure about it my slick tricks do a awsome job.

dhpro I would recomend giving the grim reapers at least a look. they actually fly like my field point and do some massive damage on a deer, plus every deer I shot last year I got a good passthru on every deer. None ran father than 40 yards and dropped! Until I find a better expandable that's all I will shoot out of my compound! Anyone use the block topper? Was thinking about using it but would like some input on it if anyone on here has tried it. As far as food plot I'm going to try several kinds and see which does better, will update on brands and how they peform for me, and will post pics of them if I can figure that out once they start growing...(or not)

I've set out some mineral blocks and have my cameras on order. This is my first year doing this. Jmax set me up with a bow and arrows and I'm practicing every day since its my first bow.

Bucks for some reason like winter peas. I have actually watched them come in and feed mainly on them. Do not know why. Went to Choo Choo Archery the other day and can not believe the inventory they have this year, most I have ever seen in there. Lots of people getting ready.

Winter peas are loaded with protien as are all legumes.

The also improve your soil by adding nitrogen. If you plant them, I would reccomend using a bean/ pea innoculant. You can find it in any co op. it will improve your germenation rate and the young plants will come up quicker which helps them resist grazing pressure.

I could go on and on about food ploting. I enjoy that aspect of hunting as Much as any part of it. I'll stop now.

Planted 2 plots with cowpeas, hung some more cameras, killed some copperheads, caught a little baby pig. Done over 30 miles on atv in the past 2 weeks and my lower unit is raw....here comes bow season...

I'm gonna plat one with cowpeas myself then the other one possibly two depending on whether I can get cleared in time with diffenernt kinds of throw and grow mixes to see which ones does best. Got my deer cocain put out two days before this heavy rain set in but thinking about going back and putting a block back in it with the fear all this rain might have washed all the powder out before it worked in the ground good enough.

I planted whitetail institute this year for the first time it was more expensive to plant but I have the tallest an prettiest food plot I ever had this summer an all the rained helped im sure but the deer are hitting it hard.I hate to bush hog it all down. But I am going to try the whitetail institute tall tine tubbers an the white radishes did great last year mixed in with my turnips if it will ever dry up had over 600 pics in 4 wks on one camera I put out 2 more last time I was up

Got my food plots out this past saturday, and checked my mineral spots. deer are tearing up my mineral spots! here is a question for others that do food plots. After planting how long should you wait or if you should fertilize again?
