In his latest budget the President proposes the privatizing of TVA. Over the last 70 or so years Republicans, who are not from TN, AL, KY, and MS have referred to TVA as a socialist enterprise. What do ya'll think. Is TVA socialist? Would you like to see it privatized?..... I don't want to see it privatized..... and ya'll thought I agreed with Obama on everything lol.

I haven't looked into it, so really cant speak on it. I know Team D has worked for them for 25 years, I hope he has some input for us.

I'm for privatizing everything possible. I know private enterprise runs circles around government operations. I've worked for both and have seen the foolishness and extreme waste in government operations. It made me sick to watch it go on. In private enterprise, I had to establish and defend a budget each and every year. Not so in government. They got a yearly increase, regardless (an open invitation to waste). Every American should be forced to see this crap happening in the government. Then, it would change.

I bet if it were privatized you would see wages fall in line with what comparable jobs pay in the private industry. I bet the benefits would head that direction also. I would be nervous about that if I were a TVA employee.

All their employees should be against it as it doesn't serve their interests. If my wages were higher and my benefits better than some other company why would I want anything to change. I have tried to get over there in the past and I am sure will again in the future.

I just wonder how people are gonna react when their rates start going up. This area has had govt subsidized power for 70 years. I oppose the President on this more from a historical perspective. The very reason the govt began TVA was because "for profit" companies wanted no part of providing flood control and electricity to our area. The tn valley was one of the last populated areas to receive household electricity. This is typical for large companies.......let the govt (and taxpayers) build it, then come in and reap the profits. Many on here will disagree with my position on the role of govt. It is my belief that the free market, capitalistic side of our society should always have first crack at supplying the needs of society. The govt needs to step in when the free markets either can't or won't meet those needs. TVA is a classic example of this.

The government has no business at all in attempting to run a commercial enterprise. They have no incentive to run a lean and mean operation. It's like socialism - it does not work. (When you as a socialist why socialism has never worked, they always say "it has not been done correctly." Just remember that Mao killed 200,000 of his people in an attempt to make it work. Same when gov. tries to run a business.

TVA has been operated quite successfully for 70 plus years by the govt, providing good jobs (direct employment and contractors) and cheap power rates for it's customers.

I know people who work there, and when listening to them, I ralize I am right. It could be run more efficiently with a lot fewer employees.

I'm from GA so I don't know much about TVA. But if it is Federally Subsidized what is moral about making someone in say Wisconsin pay (taxes) for your high wages or cheap power in Tennessee??

You could say that about most large companies. Any large organization has a TON of waste. Why do you think Lean Six Sigma is so huge in business?
