Curious as to everyone thoughts, as I accidently picked up a prop bait yesterday (I though I was getting a popper). Considering I have never really used prop baits I am trying to gather some basic info on them.

What brand Prop baits do you like and why?
When and how do you use a Prop bait?
Why choose a prop bait over other topwater (say frogs, poppers, walkers, or buzzbaits etc)?

I normally throw a torpedo and a crazy shad when the water is a little choppy and I need to make a little noise. Normally a clear torpedo and a silver/black crazy shad.

I like the crazy shads on Chickamagua. I have also used the Devil's Horse a lot as well. I catch more fish on the crazy shads and more quality fish on the Devils Horse. I agree with drop shot, the choppy water is the best time to throw the prop baits.

I use the poppers when the fish are actively chasing bait. Find a popper that spits in front of it when you pop it and the bass seem to like it when they are chasing the shad.

I use a Zara Spook type walking bait when the water is slick or calm. It seems that these baits don't spook the fish as much.

I use to pound the fish on a Devils horse on lakes in Central Florida when I lived there. When the fish were real shallow in end of March it was the best topwater bait I threw by far. On the Chick I have had very little luck on it for some reason, its hard to beat a spook and a front runner here on the chick

You had to give out the secret bait didn't you. I have been using the front runner for several years as well. I have had several double and triple hook ups using the front runner and a crazy shad. It gets to be difficult to get the fish in when you have a 2-3 pounder on the front runner and another one on the back bait.

By the way Soddy Custom has the front runners as well as the Bass Pro Shop in Sevierville.

Nothing beats a torpedo for topwater. My dad used to kill smallmouth on Watts Bar using a fire tiger color. I still thrown them from time to time and they work as not too many people use them so the bass are not used to seeing them.
