My dad took me along today to test drive a boat he is buying even with the rain... We launch the boat and idled out past the buoys and the salesman was operating the boat. When he put the throttle down the boat started to climb up and before it planed out it felt like the prop flew off. He did it again and got it up on plane and off we went. We ran for probably 20 mins and turned around and my dad took over. When he took off it did the same thing. It was like the prop was just spinning on the shaft. Every time he would try to get it up on plane it would drop off again. The salesman said we spun a prop.. What does this mean and is it bad. emoScratch He said it was the hub.... not sure what that is either. My dad really like the boat and everything else was great. He is going back down tomorrow to pick it up. They assured him the mechanic would have it all fixed up by then. Is this really just an easy fix or is it something more serious? The boat is a 21 foot center console 04 model and the motor is a 225hp Evinrude 03 model. Thanks for any info on this problem.

If you got it to go down the water, the prop is blowing out. This means it is loosing it's "BITE" on the water and slipping. Some props are designed to make the RPM's raise just before coming out of the hole. This is called spooling up. If it had alot of problem to get going there are some "adjustments" that can be made to the prop. If it had spun and hub, you would have never got it going. Once they break loose, they are done for. The hardest thing for a boat to do is get going.

I ran a boat tonight that a 26 chopper would blow out and the engine would hit the 5800 RPM limiters. It is blowing out a little more than normal. This prop is made to raise the rpms out of the hole. Sounds like you have a true salesman and not a experienced boater. Sounds like the prop needs a little "tweaking". If it is a 4 blade they have rings to lessen it, or most newer 3 and 4 blades stainless have systems with different plugs to control "blow out". A good prop man can have it "jerking a crick in your neck "on the hole shot!!!

Just my thoughts.......

It has a 3 blade prop on there now. I talked to my dad late last night and he said he ordered a new prop for it. It also has a 6in jack plate on it that I guess may need some adjusting. I was just wondering if it was a mechanical issue. Thanks James for the info.

I agree with wrenchin. If the hub was spun it would have never came out of the hole the first time. Once the hub is spun it doesnt get better.

I would say a jack-plate is a waste of time & money here. A center console boat does not perform the same way as a bass boat. If it is needed for this boat, there is a major screw-up with the mounting or motor selection. My .02.

Oh ok. The boat is rated for a 225hp and already has the jackplate on it and I'm sure my dad will leave it on there. I guess he wll just have to tinker with it. Maybe his new prop will make a difference.

The only time I have personaly run a jack plate on a center console is on our car skiff we have in la the only reason is to get it in skinny water and it hyd if it is man i would also agree with possibly it had a mounting problem or just wasnt set up right
