prop question pitch

i have 1989 40 hp mercury classic 4 cylinder and it has a prop on it 14 pitch and my friend a brand new prop he don't wants but its 17 pitch if i put it on my motor well it do me good or bad

Don't know. You will lose 600 rpms and the holeshot will slow down. I wouldn't get it unless your motor is running too many rpm's.

Yoiu'll probably go slower and it'd be hard on your engine. 17p seems like a lot for a hp.
