My trip to G Ville,
I knew it was going to be a long trip, left the house at 1.30pm Wed got over to the Dam at 5:00, man long ride...
My first thing to do was try to learn a little about the place so I ran down about three miles of the river down one side and back up the other stopping and drifting while watching the FF and making everything on the GPS that looked good of had arches on the screen... and let me tell you down there everything looked good,, lots of structure, lots of pockets, rocks and deep holes,,, everything.. made it hard to figure where to go but there where some places that stood out...
That took about three hrs, after I headed back up to the Dam for some bait, brim and netting some gizzard shad,, when I got up there I was amazed at what I saw, there where small thread fin everywhere, but what was cool was there where small gizzard shad chasing them.. It looked like you take water and throw it on a hot frying pan,, they where jumping out of the water everywhere.. after about three throws with the cast new I had more than enough Gizzards to last and some of them where monster 15" shad,, so I dropped the hook and brim fished just before dark...
With about 15 brim in the live well and all the gizzards the small cooler could hold , two packs of frozen skippys for back up, I headed down river for a long night of hopefully good fishing...
I set up at the deepest hole I could find at a bluff to start the night off, after about ten min, I put a nice 12lb blue in the boat, not a monster but a start, oh and on brim...little while later a really nice 15lb flathead hit "on live Brim", it went in the live well for dinner tonight...and then it was slow for a while.. after no fish for about a hr I pulled the hook and went to some shallower water and got another flatty "10lb's" before I could finish getting set up, then nothing, so I moved again, to a channel ledge where after a while I hooked into something really big, after getting along side of the boat three times trying to get the Boga's on him , he was having no part of it,, on the fourth try I got soaked as it broke the leader and said good by I realisticly figure in the hi 40's but I'm calling it 45...not my PB"s but in the top three, i'm happy,,a few more fish then the sun starts to come up and i'm spent, time to make the three hr ride home and some sleep...
A couple of things, I got to learn some really good water so I will be making the run when things start to cool off,, I need a net, I cant land big fish by myself with the Boga's,,, and the one thing that suprised me all the fish came off the brim, did none of the other bait even get a look,,, not sure I understand that one but it was a fact, next trip I will be loaded with gills and I wont have to spend so much time looking around...
Man it was a fun trip, who wants to go next time???
PJ
