Has anyone pulled a TN trailer into GA without trailer tags? Does GA recognize the fact that TN isn't required to have tags? Am I just staring down the barrell of a ticket if I try it? Any previous experiences would help.

Thanks.

If your vehicle is registered in TN- no problem.
I'd just be sure I was drinking and the tags won't matter! No really, you're fine! Welcome to the CFF! emoThumbsup

Thanks, dragfish. I have TN tags and the boat is registered in TN, plus it's only 14' ... I'm really hoping I don't have to get a tag. It's a nightmare if the trailer wasn't previously registered!

+1 never really been harrassed about trailer tags and I have never had one on a boat until the one I have now. If you are worried about it you can always get a homeade trailer tag for like 12 bucks though.

... after you try and explain it to the poor little pointedity headed officer, and they check in with there radio dude, your ok! I was stopped 3 times in a period of about 9 months in the great municipality of Fort Oglethorpe until they finally got it! I now just avoid Battlefield Parkway when going to pick up my Dad who lives in Rossville. Maybe they know by now?!

Thanks for the replies. I'm only planning on taking it to Carter's Lake, so hopefully I won't have any problems.

I travel to all the states that surround us and fish. You are subject to those state laws once you cross the state line. If that state requires a tag on a boat trailer, you must comply.</font>

I know several TN residents that have been pulled in GA for this and they ALL have been sent on without a ticket... You don't even register a trailer in TN unless it's for commercial use???? I live on the VA line and they must have tagged trailers as well, but I've never even heard of them pullling over a TN vehicle for this....

I wouldn't worry about it one bit, unless you're doing something else illegal!

I was told by DMV that it is the law in your state so since TN does not require it you should be fine. There is a piece of paper they gave me in case I do get pulled that basically says to respect the TN law or something like that. You should register it even if you do not get a tag. More of a legal title issue than anything else

<font face="georgia, palatino" size="2">I have been pulling in Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina and have had friends pulled over and ticketed while they were running with me. For what a tag costs in Tennessee it is not worth the hassle. If they want to find something they will, do not give them an excuse. Just a side note, if you have bearing buddies and there is grease showing, you are polluting the environment (case in point).</font>

I have pulled my boat in several states outside of TN. and worrried about this as well. I have lived in 3 different states and always had a trailer tag. I Asked the DMV and they said your boat registration is all you will need to hand a police officer if pulled over in another state. If your getting pulled over, your registraion is up to date, and getting a ticket something is not right emoScratch

fishinvol, do you use the interstate or back roads? Does that even make a difference?

Thanks for all of the help, guys. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet, but this has helped get a fuzzy picture of what to expect. :)

I love TN .. so much less BS .. Ga has so many taxes .. and other pocket book gouges.. anything they can do to make a buck. If I had to live any where I wanted it would be either TN or AL Ive never lived in AL but after so many years of doing Dell service work in NC, TN, GA and AL Id have to say AL and TN are my fav states.. only other place I would love to live is in the Keys .. I lived in the keys yrs many many moons ago .. would go back in a heart beat! Only Place in FL I would live

I love TN, too. I moved here instead of going back to TX after I got out of the Navy specifically because of the area, the people, and the outdoors here (it didn't hurt that the wife is from here, either). I just wish their trailer tag process wasn't such a pain!
