Although they certainly are no help, the coyote blame for the quail decline isnt true.
The coyote is a western predator where multile upland birds, including bobwhite have flourished. The bobwhite is a predator adapted species. Quail already began tanking in the late 60s early 70s before coyote became heavily established.
Habitat loss, fescue pastures, and increase in late successional habitat is the culprit.
What the TWRA is doing here is at least a good step (and example for what private lands can do) towards reestablishing quail.
