After flinging traps for the past month at Guntersville, two of my reels started getting a little noisy. On top of that, I seemed to be losing distance on the cast, even though I backed the brake up a few times. I've oiled reels before, however, they usually did not work any smoother and often ended up worse. While picking up some more xr50s at Fish Tales, I saw the Quantum Hot Sauce and decided to give it a try. After lubricating all metal parts that contact each other, I made a few casts in the back yard. Of course, without the friction I had before, I backlashed nearly the entire spool

...it definitely works. Well worth $7

I heard that Jason! Gotta tighten that reel up a bit when you use this stuff. It WORKS!

Highly recommend it to anyone..

..and it don't take but a drop to work!

I use it on all my reels. Although it's pricey, a little goes a long way and stays in place. Great stuff!

I have never used Hot Sauce but have read about long distance casting competitions. Lots of guys use lots of different rigs but one thing most of them have in common is that they use Hot Sauce in certain parts of their reels. Some of the distances they cast are unbelievable.

Here's my take on hotsauce:

The oil is great--on spool bearings. It will definitely give more distance (and result in a brake resetting!).

I've used it on the other components, both the grease and the oil. Frankly, I like a heavier oil for such things as anti-reverse bearings and gear-supporting bearings. I also like other types of grease. My reason for this is that these components get grimy, and Hotsauce is nearly impossible to remove once applied, particularly the grease. Some degreasers don't seem to faze it. I've gone back to using Abu Garcia Silicote oil and grease for these other applications, and quantum hotsauce oil in spool bearings. It does seem to result in somewhat noisier bearings, though, and I usually re-lube them periodically.

I've also found that it doesn't stay in place sometimes. I had to thoroughly clean the drag washers on one of my curado 100's a month or two ago so I could lock it down as needed.
