I have a question that hopefully one of you can help me with. I have been doing my homework for some time now (probably for too long) trying to decide on whether to buy a Hummingbird side scan or a Lowrance unit. Since I already have a Lowrance LMS520C on my dash, I'm leaning toward a Lowrance HDS 8 with the LSS-1 structure scan. My question is: can I move my 520C to the front of the boat and connect it and the HDS 8 together so they will share info through the LSS-1 unit or will I have to also purchase the ethernet box to make the 520C and the HDS 8 link. Any help would be appreciated.

You can only view the structure scan on the HDS units. However, you can still network the LMS520C and the HDS unit so that you can see similar waypoints and sonar. If you did want to see your structure scan up front, you would need to have an HDS unit and an extra ethernet cord.

Cowboy up is correct; You can network the LMS520C to the HDS-8 via the Structure scan box. The structure scan simply acts as an ethernet hub in this case, allowing you to share sonar and waypoints. The LMS520C does not have the programming to read any signals coming from the structure scan transducer because it is a different wavelength. I would make sure the LMS520C software was updated with the latest version, which is the 2.5 upgrade.

PS I would get a HDS-8 GEN 2 and an LSS-2 HD structure scan which will be the same price as the LSS-1, just no rebates.
