Question on Syn. oil for Mercury Bridgeport

What is the best Syn. oil for a Mercury Bridgeport?The guy I got boat from claims clots oil.

That is a tough question. It would be more of a personal opinion instead of fact. ALOT of people who run high performance outboards run Alisyn oil, clotzs, pensoil. Do you know if it is a a Nikasil block or has been steel sleeved? Some engine builders don't suggest a full synthetic in a steel sleeve engine. What RPM range are you planning on turning it? Is it Carb of EFI. Recreational is 7,000 and produces around 245 propshaft Hp if EFI and at 8.000 race it produces around 275 propshaft HP and is ALOT shorter lived.

So alot depends on how you intend to use it for what you want for it.

Thanks wrechin 2.He also gave me a gallon of Alisyn oil.The guy I got the boat from said he thought he mixed 50:1 does that sound right?

Depends on rpm. I mix 50:1 up to 6K. 40:1 up to 7K and 32:1 over 7K. Just my thoughts....

Hey Wrenchin2, I have a 2008 250XS (merc) with 110 hours on it. I have always ran premium plus but I am in the process of switching over to Amsoil HP injector oil. My motor is steel sleeved and turns about 57-5800 rpms. The only engine builder I have seen that advises against synthetic is Jay Smith and he hates amsoil. I have ran it in other boats and been pleased.

If you also look at who Jay Smith is.....I think he would have a pretty good opinion in it. Like I said....It would be based on opinion. I tend to look at someone who has that much experince as having a pretty good opinion. Of course that is just MY opinion. emoLaugh
