The pics hi&s posted of the Chic. dam under construction were great and got me thinking about the creek. I've been told by a few people who are actually older than me emoGeezer that the creek was re-routed to bring it in below the dam. You can plainly see where the rip-rap on the creek starts, and I have a few of those old construction pics, but I've got none that tell me anything about this. Also, I know that some of the old guys have very different memories of the route President Roosevelt took from downtown to the dam. If anyone has any "mouth of the creek" info on this please share it with us.
I grew up hunting and fishing and trapping along the creek and have a lot of great memories of those times. I have an old newspaper pic and one my dad took of my neighbor, Mr. Howell, with a 11 plus pound Muskie caught down on the rock bluffs below Hamill Rd. bridge on a red and white River Runt plug in 1950. I rode my bike up there for days afterwards fishing along that spot hoping to catch me a Muskie not realizing that my old hand-me-down rod and reel would'nt hold a fish anywhere near that size. Mr. Howell wasn't the only one to catch Muskies back then just the biggest one recorded. Their was much debate at Mac's Gun & Tackle as to what it was so a couple of game wardens and another guy (biologist maybe?) came and all agreed it was indeed a Muskie. As was the custom then it was cleaned and eaten.emoHungry emoSorry
