Changing line on your favorite reel can be a PITA. I've bought all of the gimmicks out there, the latest being a $30 Berkley line changer, and even had one of the kids or the wife to hold the line spool on a pencil/screwdriver etc..... I've always had problems with the line coming off of it's spool and getting tangled around the spool support.

Well I've found the perfect solution for changing line......anytime, any where. You can even do it alone in your boat on the water.

If you look at the picture attached to this post, you'll see a simple gym bag. I've had one in my boat for ages. I don't even know where it came from. If you notice it has a small zippered compartment on the end and on the side. These compartments will easily hold a 330 yard spool of 4 or 6 lb line. I've been keeping one of these babies in my boat loaded with a couple of spools of line ever since I learned that the spool will rotate perfectly while sitting zipped up in that compartment. I just leave the zipper open a little bit and run the line through it. I attach the line to my reel and just crank away until my reel is full. I then put a small piece of tape on the line spool, zip up the compartment and I'm ready to fish. I'm also ready to strip and put new line on my reel any time I need to. Even in my boat while fishing. You can re spool your reel in less than 10 minutes.

I also put the stripped line inside the bag to be carried home and placed in the trash...ALWAYS carry your line home. Don't leave it at the lake!!!!!

I have done this as well, my plano tacklebox has a compartment for boxes of string i simply leave a hole in the zipper for the line to come out, it adds just enough tension to spool good, and remember pull string from the top of the spool it causes alot less birds nest.

Not a bad idea but be very careful if you are running the line through the zipper area. The line rubbing on the zipper could cause weakening in the line. Definately don't want to lose a fish because of this. emoBang
For about $6-$10 you can actually buy a case for line spools. Usually hold up to 6 spools. These cases have a hole to run line from each spool through and allows the spool to spin freely, allowing you to re-spool quickly and safely.
Just another word of advice, not trying to squash the idea, just sayin' be careful with the zipper emoAngel

Acadamy Sports has a barrel you can put your old line in for re-cycling. I just keep mine in a waste can till I plan to go there. At a lot of Alabama boat ramps they have a PVC pipe you can put it in too.
Thanks for the post!
