I think I need to raise my motor up some. I have to trim the heck out of it to get good speed and if I run without trimming, it feel like I am pulling a barge. I have a 12in jack plate. Do I need to brace the motor before I loosen the bolts. Mine has a big nut, attached to a cable, turn the nut and it raises the motor. Is this something I can do myself . I know you have to be careful you don’t lose water pressure.

IT PROBABLY IS A RAPID JACK BRAND BY YOUR DESCRIPTION AND STANDARD ON BULLET`S....WHEN I TINKER WITH MINE I TRY TO GET THE MOTOR AS STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN AS POSSIBLE BY RAISING OR LOWERING THE TRAILER FOR CLEARANCE UNDER THE FOOT/SKAG. I TAKE A WOODEN 2X4 OR SOMETHING SIMILAR AND TRIM THE MOTOR DOWN ONTO IT UNTIL ITS JUST BARELY TAKES A LITTLE STRAIN OFF THE MOUNT..... YOU`LL SEE THE BACK OF THE BOAT LIFT UP JUST A LITTLE......THEN LOOSEN THE JACK BOLTS AND TURN THE BIG NUT WITH THE CABLE ONE TOOTH AT A TIME....SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO JIGGLE THE MOTOR A LITTLE GET IT TO SLIDE EASY BUT IT USUSALLY JUST GOES RIGHT UP WITHOUT ANY TROUBLE. I`VE NEVER HEARD OF THE CABLE BREAKING BUT IT DOESN`T HURT TO TAKE SOME OF THE STRAIN OFF OF IT. MAKE YOU SOME MARKS WITH A SHARPIE ON THE SLIDE PLATE FOR REFERENCE ON HOW MUCH YOU MOVE THE PLATE.....I THINK IT`S SUPPOSED TO MOVE 1/4 INCH PER TOOTH.
DON`T FORGET TO TIGHTEN YOUR BOLTS BACK UP !!
