Why is it that people can be so ignorant at a boat ramp?It never fails that when you go you will always see at least one. As I hope all you folks know, there are areas at most ramps that are out of the way for prepping your boat for launch. When you remove the covers, load the coolers, load all the other junk in an out of the way area, you then are ready to use the ramp. I hate it when there people lined up in the staging areas ready to go and then an Jazz-O pull in front of the ramp ahead of everyone and prep and load the kids for hours while blocking the ramp from loading and unloading. Is it Ignorance or greed and disrespect or all of the above?

The latest event was at the ramp above the Chickamauga Dam last Friday. Dude was backed down in the center of the ramp using as much space as possible. The boat went onto the trailer very quickly and dude even had a driver to pull the boat trailer out of the water as soon as the boat was latched on. Good huh?? Well that is when ignorance kicked in. They only pulled the rig up the ramp enough so as to be able to walk behind the boat and not walk in the water. I was hooked up and pulling out as I saw this. During this time there was a boat waiting to be launched and a trailer waiting to pick up. as I left the ramp the ramp was empty. As I was waiting for themto pull up into the lot it dawned on me what we were seeing. The dude and his buddies were big fellers so I got out and approached them humbly. I pointed out the two waiting vehicles that were right at their truck door and stated that it is ramp procedure and common courtesy for them to clear the area to secure their boat for the road. He said"Oh I'm sorry" and proceeded to go to his truck to move it out of the way. Good huh ??? He pulled up alright. Right in the middle of the road and not far enough for the waiting vehicles to be able to swing in to back their trailers without a little back and forth action. Then they had no room to drive around to get out of the ramp area.

What Inconsiderate idiots!!! If you or your party does not know how to be respectful at the ramp, please trade your boat for a nice pick-up truck and go to the woods on the weekends.

It's NOT ignorance! Some prople have forgotten about commom courtesy. I see it on the roads, grocery store, etc. Good on you for trying to help!

Chickamauga Dam seems to be the worst area around here. It must attact the idiots.

Break out the lawn chairs and an umbrella and cool drinks and meet there on a Saturday and I guarantee you could laugh all day! How bout it Patrick??? Ha Ha emoLaugh The worst thing I have seen is a dude anchoring his jet skis on the ramp and talking to another dude halfway down the ramp - after about 10 minutes of patiently waiting I got out of the truck and asked him to move his jet skis - he looked at me like I was crazy. As the wicked witch of the west once said - What a world - What a world!

... no, no ,no, I disagree! The ramp at the Dam isn't the worst! Although it is good. I believe the best is Wolftever. Man, just get you a cold beverage of choice, or several, and sit back and watch on any Saturday or Sunday afternoon. It's quality entertainment at it's best! Now if your in line to load or unload, you're simply po'd! But afterwards, it's just funny! Can't back in, haven't checked the batteries {they're dead}, engine hasn't been started in over a year, plugs out of the boat, didn't take the straps off, forgot to unhook the boat, don't even know if they have gas or not? And they just sit there on the ramp, shouting at everyone in their party, blocking everyone else while trying to figure out what to do!? It's a blast! I've sit there and watch them several times especially when I'm by my self. Last Saturday, I told my Dad to watch a poontang boat trying to load down at Sarindino on Nickajack while I put everything away. He was still laughing as we went up to Cummings highway! It's was great!

elwestb is correct, wolftever is worse than shooting yourself in the foot if want to get in our out after 12:00 on saturday or sunday, pure chaos in every direction! I've gotten so mad trying to get in later in the afternoon to do some night fishing that i wanted to leave and go home by the time i actually got my boat in the water, especially the "hold my beer" crowds on the beat up old bow riders and pontoons.

You are probably right Earl. I try to avoid it at all costs due to some of what I have seen at Wolftever in the past.

Oh yeah, BTW, Thise lines painted down the ramp are lane lines, just like on a road, STAY IN BETWEEN THEM!! My wife an I went to CFP last week one evening and there was a guy with a brand new bass boat (I won't say what brand) Putting his trailer in at an angle blocking all three lanes! I thought my wife was going to loose it!

It just goes to show that it's not just the pleasure boaters who are inconsiderate.

Who's next on the soap box?

I have come to the conclusion that its not ignorance. More and more people are getting to where they just don't care or respect other people. They don't respect other peoples time and our society is becoming selfish. While we were coming off the water at CFP a few weeks ago, I noticed two older gentlemen trying to trailer their boat that obviously had engine trouble. Meantime, while they were struggling to hand load the boat, the waves from the pleasure boats running (just outside the no wake zone) were hammering the ramp. As we came in and tied off at the ramp, I noticed several young capable men walk right past these guys looking but not offering any help. I waded out on the ramp, helped push the back of thier boat around, and they were loaded. The men were thankful and I said glad to help. Only took about 3 minutes of my time but i could tell these men were hot and frustrated. It just surprised me that nobody offered to help.
