Rattle Trap Bite

I see a lot talking about the Rattle Trap being productive. Anyone willing to share color patterns they are using?

I don't mind to share, especially since I will not be back for a year. emoAngel You need three colors to make it simple. One is the one I was just using there myself. The water was somewhat stained and I had on the red and yellow XR50. It is painted kind of in a crawdad pattern but really I don't think that matters as much as the color itself. Second I like to have a red one without the yellow also. Don't know why but sometimes they want the yellow and other times they don't. Then when the water clears up have one with a lot of flash. I like chrome with a blue back. Silver and gold will work too.

If you can find some grass it seems to work better. Not thick grass but loosely scattered. On your retrieve pump your trap up and down letting it fall after you rise the rod tip. You want to try and tick the grass but not bury it in it. Depth will range from "shallow as crap" to about 6 foot this time of year. Hope this helps. emoThumbsup Jmax

Looks like one of those favorite baits you never want to get rid of because it's been so good to you.

HA! emoLaugh You are absolutely correct. emoBigsmile It is still catching fish so why replace it? I think the bass look at that bait and think, "There is a shad on it's last leg, I think I will eat that one, it will be an easy meal." emoTongue Jmax

I think you are right on that, obviously it's blind in one eye so the bass will attack it from that side. emoLaugh
For whatever reason some plugs just work better than others and you certainly don't won't to lose them or let them go.

I really like the rattle yo-zuri and the 2-tap lipless cranks a lot.

Here lately I have boated more fish with the 1/8th oz. Bill Lewis tiny trap in red crawfish up in wolftever on heavy cover. Casting out, let sink for a few seconds the slowly retrieve with short pauses. Been catching everything from crappie to LM bass on it. JMO
