Rebuild outboard or not?

The float stuck in the middle carburetor of my 3 cyl 1992 Johnson 70hp and melted the middle piston. I got a quote to rebuild this motor (bore all 3 cylinders, new pistons, new carb kits) of $1100 from an outboard mechanic in Lenoir City. Does that sound reasonable? Would I better served to put my money towards a newer motor rather than sinking it in a 20 year old outboard?

If you have it built right it's not 20 years old, it's new and those engines last forever if you take care of em.

That is more than reasonable. Those are good engines and will last forever if taken care of. Just my .02</p>
