Cajun Red fishing line claims to vanish 3 ft of water. Bleeding baithooks makers claim that "red" is a fish attractor.
They both can't be right! Is it another example of marketing to catch fishhermen rather than fish? Has anybodies fish catching improved by using either of these porducts?

I have often pondered that same thought, I know for sure that my RED rattle trap still catches fish in 3-10ft of water.I do know that cajun line has more memory than I like. Lets ask the experts..........

Red has the shortest wavelength in the color spectrum. Red line is translucent and the therefore becomes invisible after sinking a few feet. Red hooks are solid and will reflect light where the fish will still be able to distinguish the red color in deeper depths.. I use red hooks on lipless crankbaits only. It's the only lure where I've had luck using red hooks. As for Cajun line, it's great for stringing Christmas lights. I'd never again use it as fishing line.

I've also noticed a better hook up with red hooks on crankbaits. I replace all front hooks with red ones. I haven't noticed any difference using red hooks for plastics, sb's, or jigs. I didn't care much for the Cajun because it was too visible below the surface in shallow water. At least that's what I blamed it on last fall when my partner was using floroclear and handing it to me and the Cajun 3 to 1 ! emoSmile

Just my $.02.

I think the line is tough and works well for catfish but they don't care about line anyway. I have used red hooks on cats and crappie and do not see any marked difference in catch rates on either. I could go for the red hooks helping on bass though.

i am with hl&s,i change the front hooks on my crankbaits and rattlebaits with red hooks, and have noticed i hook alot more fish with the front hooks doing this thus loosing less fish.as far as the cajun line im like almost everybody else ill never use it again.

I have wondered about able to see red hooks but not see red line for a long time. Thanks for feedback. I won't waste my time on red line.

The color red appears to fish as the "gill flash" that occurs when fish suck in food. This brings out the competitive nature in predatory fish, and they want to run over and get a piece of the action.

IMHO, almost all line "disappears" well enough in water to not be much of a factor in all except the clearest of lakes and rivers.

I've never had a bass tell me that he almost didn't bite my red spinnerbait because he saw my line.emoBigsmile

I'm with ranman. I use red hooks on senkos, floating worm, etc. & lipless cranks & on T-rig big worm when swimming over shallow grass. I think it makes a difference there. Tried Cajun line once, won't use it again.
