My friend from Ohio is wanting to fish a cypress tree lake and we are going to take a week trip in May somewhere. As far as cypress tree lakes go Reelfoot seems like the best middle ground for us since I'm around Atlanta (If you have a better suggestion please air it). Being that we haven't been there before, any advice is appreciated. That lake seems like more of a crappie/catfish lake from my internet research. We are wanting to target bass, and hopefully trophy bass. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Ive only been on the lake a few times duck hunting and it seemed like you wouldn't wanna take anything fiberglass on it. Its chocked full of stumps and its very very shallow

Reelfoot lake is 20 miles long and seven miles wide, about 15,000 acres, with an average depth of 5.5 feet, the maximum depth being 18 feet. I have seen some good bass come out of there as well as about any other kind of fish you can think of. Most of the stumps are actually tree tops but you sure don't want to put any fiberglass in there like Triton20xHarris said. Those tree tops are just under the water and will spook the dickens out of you when you hit one and there are many there to hit.

If you go in warm weather, get ready for some serious mosquitoes, they are unbelievable up there. It is one beautiful place though and well worth the trouble of the trees and moskeebiters. They do have a path marked out that you can go where you won't hit the trees. Get ready to lose a lot of lures though, and if you fish with live bait, the little one at the top will steal the bait before it can get down to the big ones, that lake is full of fish.

Sorry I know this is an old post.

yes I have fished here. Its been 6 yrs, I used to live 30-45 mins. from there. The crappie and bass fishing are outstanding. Pan fish are also very popular up there. I have bent a prop and shaft our there. Take your time anytime you are on that lake.

good luck when anyone heads up there.
