REINSTALL HELP

I TOOK THE FOOT OFF MY 50HP MERC, TO PUT A NEW IMPELLER IN IT. I HAVE MADE THE REPAIR AND I AM TRYING TO GET THE DRIVE SHAFT BACK INTO PLACE AND EVERYTHING LINES UP BUT IT IS LEAVING LIKE A 1 IN GAP TO COME TOGETHER, I AM TRYING TO DO THIS BY MYSELF SO ITS DEFINATELY NO FUN. I CANNOT GET IT TO GO ALL THE WAY BACK UP IN THE MOTOR, IS THERE A TRICK TO THIS OR HAVE I DONE SOMETHING WRONG? IM ABOUT READY TO PUT A COUPLE .380 SHELLS INTO THE BOAT...LOL....HELP!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like the shift rod is holding you up..........you got to talk real sweet to it and tell it how pretty it is before she'll let you stick it in. No amount of lube or brute force will help, it will actually work against you.

Well I have definately reallized its not a one man job, but some how I rubbed her the right way and she slid in like butter. Got everything together put some gear lube in and hooked up the ears. It wouldnt crank, and I was getting frustrated. Finally looked up and saw the gas was unhooked from the motor...doh..Well she cranked up easy and didnt take long before water started squirting out.....then it spit and sputtered the water and stopped again........aolsdjflasjfljadslfjasljflasfjaslfjdslfasljflasjdfaldfasldfadslfjaslkjfadsljfladsf. Well tonight im gonna order a complete water pump assembly and start over. If it doesnt work this time the boat is getting hauled off. The silver lining...the boat motor is running great now that we rebuilt the carbs.lol

i believe those have thermostats that have to be working right allso.i was just on the phone the phone with james and he said after he eats he will get on here and talk to you about it.

Clutch442.......LOL!!!! This engine does not have thermostats that I am aware of. This is a late 80's 50 HP. If it was peeing and then stopped, look at the water coming out around the prop. If there is a good stream running out, it is pumping but you can "tell" it from the pee tube. Was all the pump there? If not, you have pieces of pump in the powerhead that may have some passages blocked off. You get a chance give me a call.</p>

BTW I can do it by myself!!!LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course I know all the tricks. I have done hundreds of them. But I have a harder time tying my shoes!!!!! Mainly because I can't see my feet!!! LOL!!</p>
