Had an unscedulated day off today(I love the construction biz) so I decided to go trout fishing.I drove up to the upper launch just below the powerhouse and threw some corn for a couple of hours and caught a limit....and released my limit......and froze my fingers off.they only had one gen.running and shut it off from 12 to 1 so there was very little current.for all the fly fisherman, there was a hatch going on but I never saw what it was, just alot of fish rising all over the place.I would guess that it was a caddis or midge hatch considering what time of year it is.nothing of any size and all rainbows fresh from the hatchery but alot of fun anyway.

Great report ranman. I think that might be the first trout report on the board... I try to release most everything I catch so I think it's great you released the fish! Is there a place to park downstream from the powerhouse or do you walk to an area? I recall a ramp and paid parking area somewhere but I am not sure how far it was downstream from the powerhouse. I remember going up there in college and somehow walking across the river/dam at the powerhouse and fishing right below the generators and catching a limit on a rooster tail. Is it still possible to get to that spot or are the roads closed?

You can still drive right up to it. there is a parking lot just below it and a gate that only TVA people can drive past but you can walk up the road to the swinging bridge.I'm pretty sure you can still fish below the the generators but I usually don't go up that far anymore. The put-in that I'm talking about is the one the rafting services use a few hundred yards down river from the powerehouse. There are places to park all up and down the river but it is a fee area above the "big bend"area of the river, although all of the pay stations were not there today for some reason accept at the ramp where is wasemoAngryI talked to a couple of guy's that told me that they were catching them below the generators on white jerkbait type lures. There is a big shad die-off this time of year on the lake that feeds the powerehouse and the trout (and other fish)have learned to feed below the outlets this time of year.I have heard about this for years but I have never tried it before(I was a dry fly purest for several years and that type of fishing was just wrong);)
