Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Results for the Mississippi River at Memphis, Tennessee
This past Saturday (9-16) the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail held the final qualifying event for the 2006 season on the Mississippi River at Memphis, TN. Anglers from 10 different states merged to the Mud Island River Park at Memphis for the last chance to make the cut and advance to the 2006 Cabela’s King Kat Classic to be held on Alabama’s Pickwick/Wilson Lakes at Sheffield, Alabama on October 13-14, 2006.
Taking first place in the event was the team of David Coughlin of Jackson, TN and Gary Haynes of Troy, TN with an overwhelming weight of 153.00 pounds. David and Gary were fishing North of Memphis in 60-100 feet deep using skipjack herring. David and Gary took home a check for $1,300.00 for first place along with a new Minn Kota trolling motor for capturing big fish of the event with a 72.75 pound fish.
In second place was the 3 person team of Phil King, Tim Haynie and Lealond Harris of Corinth, MS with a weight of 136.00 pounds and receiving $800.00. The team was fishing in 30-40 feet of water nearly 1 mile south of the ramp using skipjack herring. Congratulations to the team for taking first place in the 2006 Points division. As the 2006 National Points Champions the team will receive a new 1886 model Polar Kraft boat and trailer.
Third place went to the team of Daryl and Jason Masingale of Paragould, AK with a total weight of 132.35. Daryl and Jason went up river 80 miles fishing in 35-40 feet of water using skipjack herring. The team reported catching all their fish early in the morning.
Donnie Fountain of Jasper, GA and Ronnie Strickland of Miland, TN took fourth place with 106.25 pound. Donnie and Ronnie traveled up and down the river to catch their fish and receive $250.00. The team was hitting shaded areas in 15-30 feet of water.
Taking fifth place was the well known team of James Patterson of Bartlett, TN and America’s Favorite Fisherman Bill Dance weighing in 99.25 pounds. Patterson and Dance were fishing down river in the Tunica, MS area using skipjack in 23-32 feet of water. The team received the KeelShield Certificate for fifth place in the event.
The next stop on the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail will be Sheffield, Alabama where these teams along with 250 other anglers will compete for a payback of over $70,000.00 at the Cabela’s Ling Kat Classic on October 13-14th.
