Well I will say those guys of the DU may just be a bunch of duck hunters but they can put on a tournament any time they want and I'll go.emoThumbsup Gang that was a great little tournament!!! Only had twelve boats show up to fish, but you would have thought there was a hundred the way those guys laid out the red carpet for us. The whole thing was top noch and very well put togather. Becuase they did not get the twenty needed for the prize money as they wanted they paid everything they took in back out.emoWorthy They did not make a dime on us which I felt sorry for them with all they did to make it a great Tx. Still even at that first was $1000.00, second $350.00 and third was $175.00, with big bass I believe was $175.00. My hat is off to those guys, you all missed a great tournament.

The tournament was won by the team of Richard Morris and Greg Freeman with 14.66 lbs and they also had big bass at 3.92lbs. I talked to them and asked would they mind me posting what they did and they said not at all. They caught theirs all deep with most caught on a DD22. They walked away with $1,175.00.emoSmile
Second was 11.70 lbs. and thrid was 9.78 lbs. Now here is the part I liked, Tarheel and myself were able to get a better bite today than I did yesterday but we fell just short with 9.73lbs. with our best five keepers.emoBang I at first was feeling low when they annouced they were giving prizes down to eighth place. Next thing I know for winning forth we got a one night stay on the water at a cabin valued at $100.00 and a party bardge rental for one day valued at $175.00, both of us also recieved one years membership for free in DU and you get a monthly magazine.emoTongue I'm telling you what!!!! We got $300.00 worth of stuff for fourth place.emoWorthy I think we got the better deal than third. Fifth was 9.48lbs and I can't remember what they won. I am pretty sure sixth and seventh got a beutiful framed duck print. Like I said well done, very nicely put togather.

Tarheel and I caught about 25 bass today and our five best keepers came on two baits. Two of the keepers fell to a early morning spook before the sun came up fished over grass in about four feet. The other three came on white spinner baits, two fish in grass clipping it so it was right at the grass edge. The other was on a rock wind blown point. We had a great day fishing and it was well worth it.emoToast Jmax

Nope, he wishes!emoRolleyes I'm afraid all our Freebird came in with was his $90 shirt on his back. Said he couldn't land a keeper today. I can relate, I had that day yesterday.emoAngry Still it was a lot of fun and I enjoyed seeing him.emoCool Jmax

Thanks for the report Jmax. Sorry you didn't win but someone has to come in 4th. emoPoke Just kidding. Wish ya'll would have had a better turn out. Sounds like these folks knows how to throw a nice tournament on! emoThumbsup Glad everyone had a good (well,,,,safe ) day. Congrats on the placing and the prizes.

Thanks fisherpal2k, we did enjoy ourselves. I'll tell you what was bad about the placement today. I looked in one of my live wells and found three almost whole shad that the bass had upchucked in it!!!!emoEek We lost third by .05 lbs and if those shad had stayed in the fish I am sure we would have gotten third.emoBang They were more than .05, it just wasn't meant to be today in the money side of the picture. I am not complaining though, Friday I went and boated around fifteen bass and not one keeper. Than the morning of the tournament the first stop within ten minutes, BOOM!!!, a nice 15 1/2 inch LM jumps all over my spook. I was fishing the same area I was the day before and just goes to show you, you never know what size is going to strike. One day not one keeper and the next you bring your limit to the scales.emoThumbsup Thanks you Lord for a great day one the water. I will say this though, I agree with Pointer, it would sure be nice to fish a tournament without 20 mile an hour winds.emoTongue Jmax

I just knew you guys would have a good walk-up crowd show up Saturday morning Jmax!! I fished the bi-weekly River Rats tourney out of Marion County Park Saturday and we only had 16 boats with several guys that had never fished with us before. We normally have around 25+ on Saturday mornings. It took 13.1 to win and 12.4 was second with a big fish of 3.75. Weights were down quite a bit. I don't know about everyone else but my fish quit very early and it got real tough!! Almost like someone flicked a lightswitch and then it was over.

Yep, I know what you mean xroadsbasser. I found an area that the bass were on friday that was out in the main river on a hump that came up to as shallow as four feet and it had grass on it. Four of our five keepers we weighed in came off that hump area. Two that morning came before the wind came up and the waves got so bad. The morning was so pretty and calm, the bass blew up on spooks.emoSmile I love that top water spook bite. I also caught about 10 more short. Than the wind came up and we went to spinner baits fished on the edges of the hump. I caught three on it with two being keepers. After that we were catching one here and one there but no size. Had one nice keeper that was a red eye spot that was fourteen inches. I wasn't sure about the length limits of the tournament so we went by and checked at the landing. I am glad we did becuase all bass had to be at least fifteen inches to weigh so we had to let that one go. Than about two we were working a wind blown point and tarheel let his spinner baits fall and than work it up and Wham! our fifth keeper fell to the spinner bait. The water there dropped off to about fifteen feet real quick and that bass was holding on that drop. All things considered we had a great day.emoCool Jmax
