I have a 30.06 I am fixing to sell . but what I am wandering is I am needing to get something with a little less kick . because of shoulder problems what would be a good one to get

My wife bought me a 270 savage last year for christmas and it kicks likes a horse. So not that! 243 isn't bad.

You can put a muzzle break on your 30.06 to reduce its recoil.

will that reduce it alot? I really like the gun but it is killing my shoulder :( . I threw my shoulder out 2 years ago playing baseball so i have to do something

i love 243 very lite recoil and extremly accurate me and my 11 year old both hunt with 243 i havent had a deer yet gomore than 20 yards of corse this mite be from my shooting abities lol

Daniel, I tweaked a 243 for my son to use and it is sweet. Very little felt recoil and very flat trajectory. We use the Federal 100 grain Vital shock
and power shock ammo. It is a solid 200-300 yard rifle when sighted properly. I like his .243 so well that I use it when I doe hunt. (Neck Shots).

IT IS NOT a good brush gun. The bullet is traveling so fast that slightest twig will cause it to mushroom. If you are hunting thick stuff this is not what you want.

There is a big difference in the recoil of an automatic versus the pump or bolt action, a good recoil pad might be all that you need to keep the gun you have.

Yep, Thomas hit the nail on the head there. 7mm-08 is by far one of my favorite rounds. Plenty of knockdown power for anything in this area, and the recoil will be non-existent compared to your 30-06. Great shooting round, very accurate and very deadly. You won't be disappointed with it emoThumbsup

Daniel, if you want to go shoot a few rounds through my 7mm-08 sometime soon, let me know and we will ride up to the Cisco range one evening after work. You could try it out and see how you like it. I wouldnt mind at all bud. Better to shoot one before you buy one...

I also agree that the 243 is a great round, but like Kirk said, NOT a good round for the thick stuff. Great gun for field hunting or thinned pines out to 200-250 yds or so, but they aren't good in thick hardwoods

How about a 308? That's supposed to be a good round with plenty of power and not much kick. I have an X-Bolt in 300WSM and it knocks the shiznit out of my shoulder!

Hey I appreciate all the help guys . I think I am going to be putting it up for sale soon and decide on which gun to get from there . if there are anymore suggestions keep them coming emoThumbsup

You could get a "black rifle" M-4/ M-16 look alike. 5.56mm is now legal in TN but they also sell them in .308 kinda pricey but accurate and no recoil.

Theres some but not a whole lot of difference between a 25-06 and a 30-06 recoil wise only difference is the bullet size they use the same casing. Should be about like a .270
