Thats the limestone rocks you see along roads, dams, bridges and sometimes in owners property along the shore of the lake.

Sorry pedro gotta call you out on this one it can be either limestone, granite, or dolomite. Anyways its 2" to 6" crushed stone but i think you get the idea.

Good word, dolomite. Never heard of it but glad to learn new things. I don't think I've ever seen limestone for riprap. But here's a link to what dolomite is. Thanks for the correction and new info.

I guess to answer the dudes question, riprap is rock piled along shorelines to help alleviate erosion along the shore. Sorry Flip. I gues we both are ignorant old dudes.emoPoke But I do know one thing, Flip knows how to Flip riprap a heck of a lot better than I do!!!!

I have been in the crushed stone industry for over 20 years. Around here most of the riprap is simply Limestone. There are large deposits of Granite in north Georgia, so you may find more of that type of riprap there. I havent even heard about Dolomite since I left my 1 year Indiana gig but its a form of Limestone, both being Sedimetary rock.

Bouce them Rocks, Bro..Anytime you see a line of rocks or a rock wall...hit it hard,,This time of year, the bait fish be hanging there and the bass and whatever be hitting them. Crawldad Hotel!!emoAngler

UNCLE!!!! Sorry Flip ol buddy.... I thought since I'd been throwing rocks for over 38 yrs, I could tell granite from limestone.... I stand to be corrected!

New rip rap needs to season about 3 years before it gets good. I know, I kept trying that long section along the riverwalk and it look about that long.

As a side issue, I've always believed that rip rap was crawdad heaven but I read recently that shad spawn on rip rap. Anyone know about that???

madbomber,i know that in years past, during the shad spawn i have seen alot of shad along rip rap.but sometimes have a hard time catching bass during that time.have tried spinnerbaits and the shad would be killing it but not many bass.what would be the best bait to use at this time.emoHijack sorry
