Just couldn't stand it ... went down to River Park to the boat ramp by BASF and got out the trusty rod and reel with a Tennessee Shad 200 crankbait tied on. Interesting thing about fishing down there off the piers and boat ramp docks ... if you toss that puppy out far enough you can let the current carry it as far as you want down the river if you keep letting out line. Sometimes my spool was near empty! Got some good real estate from a stationary postion on those casts let me tell ya. BUT .. no fish.

I did however get me some new tackle. Got some new rubber, a blue grub with silver specks, a red hook, 2 sinkers and a float! You ask how? I answer by snagging other people's break offs!!! So not a productive fishing day .. but wasn't TOTALLY wasted.

I just enjoy getting out there on the water, whether Im catching them or not. Theres nothing like it. I also have snagged a few "gifts" myself in the past. Last summer I was fishing near some bluffs when I hooked something that felt weird. Felt like a branch when I was pulling up but it was a rod and reel. I had hooked it in the top eye of the rod. Talk about precision!emoBigsmile It looked as though it had just fell in. I didnt see anyone nearby so I took it with me and gave it to a kid at the ramp. It was a nice little spinning outfit and the kid was happy.

several years ago i reeled in a really nice baitcaster on a rattletrap while fishing off the bank at skull island, gave it to my dad as a father's day gift.

HEY .. I bet that rod and reel was MINE!!! Was it an Ugly stick? At the bluffs when you leave the dam you go right and they have 50 feet of water with a cave by them? In 2003 I was fishing the deep water with my husband in the morning and had tied on a buzz bait I think ... thought I tripped the bail but didn't and threw it out there with the arm of Godzilla! Needless to say ... plop went the rod and reel ... red went the husband's face with steam coming out of his ears!!! Told me that rod was $100 bucks, can't remember what the reel was ... but in 50 ft. of water you aren't getting that back!

I did that once before but had released the bail so the lure floated to the top and I just hand reeled in the pole. Not so lucky that last time. But if it was mine ... couldn't be happier than to have some kid using it!!!

Hey TT, don't give up on the River Park just yet. As I have said before, we have had some great days fishing off the piers there. Obviously, you probably want to make sure the water is up so there is less chance of getting hung up in the rocks. We fish plastic toward the bank from about midpier and can usually catch something (mostly bass). It's not like being on a boat, but with the current fish are always hanging around the bank. As we have learned more about fishing, we have had very few zero days there. So if the opportunity arises again, give it another shot. Try more plastic, because it is hard to fish something from the pier that you have to run unless we have had a lot of rain and the water is up to the bottom of the pier. One more thing -- always treat yourself to an ice cream from the snack shop!!

It was a berkley cherrywood rod with a quantum spinning reel. This was up in the middle section of the Chick around Hiwassee refuge, should have clarified where I was :)

Oh .. then mine is probably still at the bottom of the lake! Maybe you should go fishing for it? And if you find it .. give it to a kid too!!!

Anyway would have been quite the coincidence huh?

I LOVE fishing!!!
