The CFF reserved our Tx dates last year. We reserved one date for this year in March for a day Tx. but another date that we wanted was in June for a night Tx. and it was declined. They said they were not going to allow any Tx.s out of the River Park from Memorial Day through Labor Day. They needed the ramp and parking for OTHER boaters!? So I guess that us FISHERMAN that pay state and county taxes that fund the River Park, the Rangers and the boat ramp just doesn't matter to them for some reason? I do not understand why the selective discrimination in choosing one boater over another? How do you justify banning one group of boaters to make room for another group of boaters? It's like Walmart saying they will not allow any pick up trucks to park in their parking lot so they can make more room for cars!

i think there are a couple of choices: just go away quietly; still hold tournaments there without their permission, go to the county or whoever is making this decision and raise hell

I'd ask for forgiveness instead of permission anyway, this selective shit about who can use something and who can't is whats wrong with this country in the first place. All they can do is tell you to not do it again . Besides there's no one there at 2 o'clock in the morning anyway.

or we could just have a BIG gatherings of bass boats on those busy days just to make a point :)

Great idea Rusty - after all they said they don't want tournaments so they can make room for other boaters. If a bunch of bass guys showed up all at the same time (say prime recreational boater time such as 11:30 or noon) and proceeded to all get in line and launch that would be awesome. When the powers to be show up and say no tournaments everyone could just look at them and say, "We ain't in no stinkin tournament, wow what a coincidence that all these bass boats showed up at the same time, but you know if we were allowed to have a tournament here we would have arrived early and been out of your way"! What could they do - everyone would be operating as an individual recreational boater.

It would seem that what qualifies as a tournament would be entry fees and weigh ins. Deciding to meet your friends at the boat ramp is the very definition of recreational boating. Rusty, I’d love to meet you, recreationally, at the boat ramp. You can help teach me how to back my boat in. I do pretty well in the dark, but if there are wake boats around it takes me 20-30 tries.

When it's my turn to back down the ramp, I do so then get my bumpers out of the truck, load my fishing gear, put the plug in and then launch by walking my boat to the dock with its' leash right?

sounds like a plan :)

Sorry to hear that this is happening at that ramp, but in Georgia at Lake Allatoona they will not allow a daytime weekend tourney from Memorial Day to Labor Day on Corps ramps. Now normally you would not want to have a tourney during the day on a weekend there in the summer as it is full of yahoos that have no idea what they are doing. Typical of most politicians of both parties these days they never think out the circumstances before they make a decision. Fishermen are just in the way to these people when the masses want on the lake, when it is blowing 35 MPH, raining sideways and 48 degrees then the fishermen are welcome.

You can’t get to the overflow parking

Ken That's right! I forgot that everything is blocked off at the norht enterance. Them the south entrance going to the boat ramp is blocked just past the ramp entrance going into the RiverPark parking area.

I know you guys have been doing it for years, but that other Saturday morning bunch is killing it for Riverpark. They have the spaces taken up early. Well you say get there early then, I’ll go for that, but two saturdays ago I got pissed at Ranger Rick and the Saturday tourney guys cause there was a couple spots open but their damn trailers and trucks were over the line were you could not get a spot. Four spaces wasted. I launched boat seeing open spots and then realized unless I wanna take out a trailer it was useless. So I went up to Ranger station and got yelled at for going in closed area and told to get out. So I load back up and go to DuPont. Now I’m a disabled vet, don’t get around good anyway. There is no handicap boat parking at Riverpark either. That doesn’t stop me but it might another disabled vet and that’s not right. I fish that river most every week and this every Saturday down there is rough on the guys fishing also. I’m out of there before lunch in summer so rec boaters can have at it. My opinion but that might be reason it’s changing down there. Those guys gotta step up and watch what they are doing at least on parking down there.

There were 14 boats last tournament and there are 26 boat parking lanes. I don't think that tournament is killing anything only being there every other saturday. Find the tournament director and ask him to remind his guys to watch their parking. Don't place blame and come bitching on the internet about a tournament that barely takes up half the parking lot.
