River Slab Crappie 3.12.07

I didn't have anyone to go fishing with me today (wife gone shopping), so I ventured out by myself again. Went to the river and stopped on a bluff and caught 12 keepers and lost 3 huge crappie on that one spot. Moved about 1/4 mile and caught the rest of my fish, except for a short foray into Woltever to catch some of those little bitty crappie. Total for the day. 23 keepers, 15 throwbacks. The smallest Crappie that I kept was 11 1/4 inches long. Total weight for the 15 were 14.8 pounds. Not bad considering that 9 of them were big males. Only 6 females caught today. Some were full of eggs, some were only about 1/2 developed.

Panfish assassins and panfish stinger were the lures that I used. Fish that I caught were around 8-10 feet deep. Counted down to about 8-10 then slowly glided the jig back toward the boat. Most of the time it didn't get back without a fish on it. Wind picked up, I had my limit, so I just quit. I believe that I could have caught 100 today.

I'm going again in the morning and will probably have another report to give. Well, I'll have a report even if it is a bad report. emoBigsmile emoGeezer
