Fished the riverpark today and did pretty good. Hit some of my favorite places and they seemed to produce. Started out throwing cranks and my partner had one that hit at the boat. Tried drifting shiners off the deep side of the boat with no luck. Mainly focused on the riprap with spider jigs, fly-n-rinds, and TR worms.

Totals for MadBomber

12 Spots
4 Smallies greater than 12" (big fish 3lbs6oz)
1 Channel Cat
1 Big Bream

On a sad note, I killed the big smallmouth. Didn't feel her pick up the worm, gut hooked her, had her outta the water waaaay too long trying to get her unhooked. Finally cut her off and put her in the live well with ice/water out of my cooler, but to no avail. I ran my cranking battery dead from running the pumps. I just feel bad killing a keeper/breeder. So now she is in my freezer, preserved in a foodsaver bag. I have a cool idea for a mount with several smallies on it. They were all supposed to be all glass mounts, but I guess one will be a skin mount.

Good report, WS6Clint. Sorry for the loss of the big one tho. They sure are a pretty fish and hard to come by. But hey, at least it wasn't thrown back to waste! thanks for the report. Keep us posted on the mount job..

great picture and almost a smile... sorry about the death but you did what you could.... MB called and told me about you trip... who fished with you??? He is getting as good as me with the camera...LOL

Pretty smallmouth, Clint. They can swallow them quicker than you can bat an eye sometimes. Nothing much you can do when they do that. Good day on the water.emoGeezer

Seemed alittle slow for me this evening but I did manage a few spots.

Sorry about the Smallie man...shes a nice'in!

I have found out you have to fish very very slow. If you think you are fishing slow enough, slow down some more. I caught the big fish right at 2pm. The will hit during the hottest part of the day, you just gotta slow way down.

Clint i noticed you was fishing really slow. I think I passed you 3 times and you was still in the same area. Guess i need to stop running around looking for more places and just fish the holes longer.

I need one of the smallmouth experts to take me to the Riverpark. The largest smallie I have caught down there was around 12 inches.

I need someone to show me the smallmouth secret.

There is a real good way to get gut hooks out, but it may be a bit hard to explain. Hold the fish like you normally do and reach under the gills with your needle nose , where they open up, and grab the bend in the hook. As you start to twist it out, it should pop free. Works everytime. An older man showed us this in FLA one year when we were shiner fishing. Saves hooks, and fish.

emoSorry emoSorry man i hate to here stuff like that my papow almost killed a 6 pound large mouth a couple of weeks ago
