Having trouble with line sounding rough coming through the eyes on a couple of rods. The eyes seem to be fine and the mono is not being hurt that I can tell. Just sounds like it would damage line in time. Anyone have solutions to this.

The line is 14 pound excel. I never have had this problem on other rods with the same line. One of the rods doing it is brand new too. Got me puzzled.

Weird. What type/brand rods, what type guides? Are the guide rings ceramics? You can test the rings for wear (which might not be visible to the eye) by swabbing a cotton q tip around the guide ring--any nicks or rough spots should catch some cotton fiber.

I personally don't use braids on account of that feel. Maybe a guide is cracked?

The rod is a new St Coix baitcasting with fugi eyes. I tried the q-tip with no luck. Crazy something so simple can bug a man so bad. Otherwise I love the rod. Seems to do the most when retrieve is almost in and I raise the rod to a steeper angle. Just afaid in time its going to get worse and start damaging the line. Had hoped someone had run into this before. Think I'm going to run over to the rod wizard(FAT ALBERT ) and see what he thinks

What size reel are you using? My thinking is that if the guides are clean, you may have a strong angle from your reel to the guides, which is inturn making the noise. I assume it to be a very oversized or undersized reel. Let us know what FA discovers.
