I play pool (8-Ball); in the American Pool Association. It's better known as the APA. We play every Wed night from 7 PM till all 5 players finish. It's located at Chatt Billiard Club - East Side (CBC East) on Jordan, just off from Shallowford & 2nd Right past Lee street.
This is a rear round co-ed amateur league that is using an equalizer rating system and is separated into sessions about 14 weeks long; then the playoffs are right after each regular session. A week break off then a new session starts. We just started the summer session last night.
Each team is allowed 8 players of different skill levels. Our team has 6 players but are from the intermediate level (4) to just under highly skilled (6). The levels are different for men and women, but just by 1 skill rating. Women can be ranked from a 2 - 7. This league is based all on a number system to keep it fair for everyone and not allow teams to recruit only top players then play thier best players every week. A maximum of 23 points can be played by each team. That is where the skill level / rank system comes into play. Only 5 players from each team play and the total of thier skill level has to be below 23!
A 2 is the very lowest a player can get. Total beginner level. A 7 is the highest a player can attain - Very Skilled. Men start out as a 4 and women start out as 3's.
Our team needs 2 more players that will be a 2,3 or 4. We do prefer 2's 03's as you WILL...... go up in skill level as you get better. It may take several week or even a yr to do so. But it can happen and most likely will as you start winning more games and beating better players.
If you are a higher skill level - Other teams there need additional players.
I am including the web address to the Chattanooga APA Home page for you to check out if you are interested: http://chattanooga.apaleagues.com/
The cost is $25 to join for a yr and on the weeks you play - it's $8.00 which goes toward expenses, patches, trophies, etc. Better explained on the web site.
Those are the only cost to play. If you don't play that week then you don't pay.
Check out the home page and give it some thought. You will most likely play a fair amount in the beginning as all new players need to have 10 weeks of play to qualify to play in the city Championships.
Two last things:
First -
This league is about sportsmanship, fair play, having fun and making new friends. If you are a player that is already skilled and think you want to play, and deliberately try to play at a lower level than you are capable of playing. BE WARNED - IT'S CALLED SAND BAGGING AND WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!!!! YOU WILL GET CAUGHT AND A PERMANENT BAN THROW AT YOU. Sorry but had to let you know that ahead of time.
Secondly -
Please don't bother joining if you are a hot head that can't hold thier temper or really is a sore looser and makes a scene. That too can get someone banned and in the long run; it hurts your rep and will hurt your team as well.
If you live in Cleveland and don't want to drive that far.... you are more than welcome to ride with me. I do some times offer to sit out and not play to give others a chance to get more games in. Even if I won't be playing - I will most times drive anyway to see my friends / teammates and the league rents most of the tables for the night till midnight and it's free for league members to play/ practice on the extra tables. That alone is worth the drive there on my off nights.
If you are interested - Please call or PM me.
